Valedictorian fights deportation

I bet Mormons have more kids than Hispanics or blacks... don't think that's gonna help Mitt much.

Mitt, a glove used by a fielder, or the name of a guy with a lot of money, that is in politics.

With experience, both can be an asset.

Gee, they broke the law and now they are getting punished.
Do you suppose the thread starter would use as an example a drunk illegal immigrant who ran over a liberal Democrat (but I repeat myself) handing out "Free Che!" leaflets?
I
Don't
Think
So

The story caught my eye more for the comments section then the article itself.
The complete lack of any sort of sympathy, for 2 innocent children who did nothing wrong surprised me.

As others have said, the girl and her sister were 2 and 4 when their parents broke the law. I dont condone or support illegal immigration. Obviously where Im from its a serious problem. However ... how would you feel if tomorrow you found out you werent actually an American citizen? That through no fault of your own, instead of heading off to Yale in the fall, you're instead fighting for your right to remind in the only home you've ever known?

Comparing a child to a drunk driver who kills someone?

You are a special one.

That would suck to be her in a bad way.

I'm guessing the kid is smart enough to know that her parents were the ones in the wrong. Haven't they done an amnesty in the last 14 years? If not- time flies!

As for the GPA. Some schools give weighted grade points to distinguish honors / advanced placement courses ( which are supposed to be college level ) from gym & shop. It's controversial.

Personally, I'm in favor of Ellis island style immigration. Let almost anybody in, but check them for disease and security risks at the border.

At the same time, I would never allow an illegal child to remain longer than nescessary for emergency medical attention before deporting them. Condoning illegal children means that parents will risk the kids lives to smuggle them in, and that needs to stop. Same with granting citizenship by birth to babies born here to illegal parents. It means that other pregnant women will risk their lives crossing the desert or stowing away in a transit container.

AP & honors class, or doing dual enrollment so you're taking some college level classes while still in high school.

It's a 10 point system dumbass. It has nothing to do with extra classes. You don't raise a gpa above the given scale because of extra classes. That's stupid.

If they knowingly overstayed the "vacation visa", and knew they stayed in our country illegeally, which both students, and thier parents were aware of..don't let the door hit you in the ass !!

All they had to do was apply for citizenship, and became part of our country the proper way, and this wouldn't even be an issue..but then thier parents might have had to pay taxes like the rest of us !

I have two brothers that work for ICE for the US Gov't and I hear horror stories everyday. I have no pity for anyone that is here illegeally..

Nobody asked you your opinion, Guido.

They do here. Local school systems, that are on a 4 point system, allow for students who take honors or AP classes to earn a 5.0 for an A in those classes. It's an incentive to take the harder classes without ruining your 4.0 if you get the dreaded B.

That's a different system though.
Maybe I'm wrong about how they're doing the gpa system down there but I've never head of being able to go from a 4 to a 6.7 under a 4 point system no matter what classes you take.

I had to google, she is in an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program where scores range from 1-7, apparently a 6.7 is pretty badass.

I believed it was a good score I just didn't believe it was because she took a college course like dumbfuck said. She's in a different system altogether which is what I figured.
It's usually graduate schools that do that but I've heard of high schools doing it sometimes. Don't know why they do.

they score different because it would be shitty to be taking advanced courses and having the same gpa as a general studies student
