Feeding the animals

I slaughter a lot of my own meat, so my food budget goes more on things like flour, sugar, spices, etc.
I don't do pre-made mixes, so pretty much everything is made from scratch.
And I have a vege garden that provides a lot as well.

If it was just me living alone, I could probably get by on about $150 a month also, especially now I'm juicing so much.

Then how the fuck are you going through $130 a week? You shouldn't have to buy that much.

You can buy food seeds on foodstamps to.

I'm including all my groceries in that amount. Cleaning supplies, toilet paper, insect spray, etc.
And it's nothing for me to spend $40 - 50 just on spices in a month.

How are cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and insect spray groceries?
Groceries are food. You do not eat bug poison. If you do, you'll spend the whole damn night vomiting. It sure as hell won't kill you, if that's what you're thinking.

It does make you hella flammable, though.

*lights a cigarette*

What?

Uuummmm... you buy all that stuff at the grocery store.
I'm not going to separate what is edible and what is not if I buy it all at the same place.

But you can buy ANYTHING at a grocery store. You buy grills and fridges and construction paper and pastels, printer ink and fabric. They're in different departments. Cleaning shit is is housewares not "groceries"- well, actually, Wal-Mart has that one random isle of cleaning shit, but it also has one in housewares- my point is, they sell anything they can make money on. Do you consider the lighters or the silly putty you buy on the way out the door "groceries"?

I think maybe your grocery stores are a little different to mine.
Grocery here is food and household cleaning/toiletries/etc.
Grills, fridges, etc are from different shops.
Places like K-Mart (department stores) are where you get fabric, small appliances, bulk cleaning supplies, books, etc.

They have k-marts outside the States? We're even killing those here. I used to work at K-mart in the electronics, when I was in high school. It's a Chinese Restaurant now- but only like, half of it. There's no way they need half a K-mart for a kitchen. This leads me to distrust them.

Half a K-mart is a chinese restaurant?
Well... at least they have room to swing a cat

Hell yea...got myself over 100 lbs of pork this past weekend...cost about 60 cents. Beyond the savings I also feel eating food you raise/grow/fish/hunt yourself adds a certain element of satisfaction when you eat it.....anyone else get that?

The SNAP/Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us to "Please Do Not Feed The Animals." This is because the animals may grow dependent on handouts and not learn to take care of themselves.

LULZ becoz poor people are animals, amiright? AMIRIGHT?

Yeah. It's nice to see the dehumanization of an entire segment of society, but that's par for the course these days.

My brother and I relied on the free lunch program for pretty much our entire childhoods. I'm not sure exactly what my parents would have done without it.

I've never been on welfare. I've never drawn a single unemployment check. I've paid off all my college loans (thanks, government!) But it's good to know that those options are available to people who need them.

Fuck this thread.

That's not a lot to spend on food?
I have 2 kids at home, and spend about $130 a week on food.

most people in order to have enough food for a month buy a lot of cheap high carb, high fat, high sugar foods. i.e.- macaroni and cheese, hotdogs, cheap high fat burger, cakes, etc.. this is why a lot of those on welfare are in poor health, big as a house, etc..

i save myself an incredible amount of money by hunting my own food in the fall/winter. dropped about 400 pounds of meat this past season. cost? each was the cost of an arrow or a .22 bullet each. this is why i'll never live where i can't hunt.
