Ok Folks here they are. If you have questions on why things are they are, don't get upset about ranging power levels. Those will be fixed before Adventure Campaign actually starts. Please PM me with anything amiss, and to figure how we can amplify your character's Hero Factor :)

Since you don't want to control everything, are you looking to gm or play, or both? I Just want to know what to expect.

I was waiting before I put up more, but I probably should have kept adding so people had more information to work with.

The Idea is that I would run one of Pathfinders Adventure paths. The pregenerated characters would be Standard models of base classes using Heroic Character stat point buy.

If I only get one other person to play besides myself it is definitely more difficult because the Adventure paths are designed around a 4 Character group. However if the RP is done more free form (IE without dice) then it does clear up a lot of the stress of trying to balance encounters.

Because I want to run an adventure path, this would be more like a campaign. I know these are hard to maintain over a long period on most message boards. I would like to give it a try and see where it leads, but no GM/DM/Storyteller is anything at ll without players who enjoy their style.

I am willing to give it a go since I have DM'd RL for more than 20 years. I just need to know that others are willing to at least give it a go.

I am also thinking that I misnamed this Thread. But If and when this takes off I will make sure to have the Adventure path Title in the Thread Title. I will also make sure we have an OOC thread to use for practical reasons

Hey, suddenly fresh meat

I guess I can be counted interested too. Will we be starting at a specific level...? Forgive me, my pathfinder experience isn't as high as my 3.5 and I might make some obvious crossover errors.

Please forgive this late reply as I have been slightly distracted.

Ok then here is what I would like each of you to do.

I want each of you to go to www.pathfindersrd.com

Once there I want each of you to go to the "Character Creation Outline"

Read this section closely to familiarize yourself with the game system and how the basics work.

If you want to create a character then do so at level one, and submit it to me in any form you see fit as I will be recording your vitals and what not in a program I own. (Using High Fantasy 20 pts for the ability score point buy)

Under Classes you will only be allowed the classes listed under "CORE CLASSES" no other classes will be allowed to start with.

Under Races you may pick from only the ones listed there. (Table: Race and Ability Score Bonuses)

As to equipment you start off with the maximum gold allowed a first level character and can spend it on whatever your lil heart desires, and your belt pouch can afford.

If you are going with a pregenerated character then all I need to know are the following:

Name:
Player Name:
Physical Description:
Race:
Class:
Items you might want:
History: (This must include where you were born, what your upbringing/family life was like, and goals and motivations for the character)

any other questions I will do my best to answer. I will be working on and off the next few days so please be forgiving if I am slow to respond to you :)

*wonders where his pathfinder book is*

I too am more, 3.5, but what I saw of pathfinder and played looks good (more so then 4th ed)

On a side note to produce discussion: You guys heard they are already working on a 5th ed?

For those of you concerned about the crossover? Don't be. it's some big changes, but they are streamline and upgrade changes that makes the core classes fresh and the gameplay much more refined. Trust me don't sweat it.

Also pathfindersrd has everything that is in the published materials somewhere. You may have to do some digging at times, but it's all there. Perfect resource.

And no, when was that announced?

(Also if anyone knows how I would love to change this thread title to "PATHFINDER: OOC")

Just edit the first post you made and you can change the title too. I believe so at any rate.

I have to actually go GET a PF book. XD so much for relying on friends
"Naw, I'll only need it with you guys. I Don't need my own copy. Won't come up at all."

Never trust those ideas, they have always bitten me in the ass later :)

Also I tried renaming the thread that way but I think maybe I am inept when it comes to that >.<

And if you go to pathfindersrd you generally don't need a book, BUT I never discourage people from buying books. Electronic or otherwise.

I'd be interested in giving this a try.
Not sure what kind of character to play. Maybe if the peeps who posted earlier can say what they're playing and I'll just fill in the gaps...if it's not too late.

I'm thinking about a rogue, but leaning more towards the social aspect.

Rogues always have great "skills", and I am always disappointed when people don't use them in other ways then just a back-stabbing, pick pocketing, lock-picking, lady charming, scoundrel.

Wait... a back-stabbing.. blah-yeh-blah is always a welcome to any party. Of course don't let the Paladin see you stealing from the church's poverty box. He might have to smite you.

If jack chooses a Paladin then I'll pick sorcerer, and if not I'll pick fighter. Gotta have someone up front...

Yeah, basically a dirty little miscreant who will lie, cheat, steal or con her way out of almost any situation. The back-stabbiness would only be a last resort.
Haven't RP'd with a Paladin. What should I expect?

While I wouldn't "ham" it up this much, I so love how they play the Paladin in this.

Paladin Rant: Gamers: Dorkness Rising

But basically put,.. we are lawful good, so and bound by the rules of our church and god. Always fun to play a goodie too-shoe with a thieving backstabber. Always has interesting dialog.

And that settles it. I will do a Paladin. I'll work on it, and ask for a Pre-gen character (maybe), later.

Sweet, that's pretty dang funny, Jack.
I found this site awhiles back. It's pretty neat, with a place to keep your character sheet and a way to roll dice online and stuff. Just sayin'.

Nice site, I'll be sure to check it out.

That was ONE of the issues I was having about starting something of this myself, the lack of "character sheets" placement and dice rolls ;p I cannot remember the site I use to go to a few years back, but they had a great layout for that kind of stuff, easy to create "Threads and sub-Threads" and store the stuff you needed for the games you were playing.

If you liked that, be sure to watch all that is free of Gamers: Dorkness Rising and their new project (well okay sort of new) JourneyQuest.

Will do, Jack.
We should work out some common backstory for our characters. Maybe they've crossed paths before...
GM permitting, of course.

Family emergency

Gonna make this brief. Father in hospital. My comp is with him. Typing on phone not so easy. Will be back online in a few days. Sorry for delay.

Game Mechanics

Alright, computer is back and I can now post freely once again (Small angelic chorus sings "Halleluiah")

First, I need some feedback from those of you who are interested.
My Idea here is to run the 6 part adventure path called "Rise of the Runelords" So if you want to go do your spoiler bits, now's the time. But the real issue here is how to handle combat, Experience, & leveling. The following list are my ideas. I need feedback from you on what you have seen work and if what I propose has merit.

Combat: I have always found combat over a message board to be a bit dodgy at best. There is always the issue of initiative, then dice rolls, then seeing if you hit, dmg, etc., etc. As any of us who have played 'round a table or cable spool know, combat can be complicated and take awhile. So why do it? Because it's part of fantasy :) . SO, I propose that we work on the honor system. Just describe your actions in a literary fashion, with as much flair and descriptiveness as your lil heart desires.

So combat will look like this

Initiative: First come first serve. If you want to act first in combat? Be the first to post after I begin a round.

Attacks: Be descriptive, but don't over do it. Realize that as a first level character even the fighter/paladin/ranger/barbarian who have the best chance to hit most opponents with a weapon are still only about 35-40% likely to hit what they aim at. That includes goblins people. So just remember it's your game, if you want to act like powerhouses at first level you will force the DM to bring in harder challenges to face to make it exciting. If that's what you want then feel free. If you want something a bit more realistic and low key? Then play accordingly. After all as the DM here I want to give you players what will keep you salivating for more.

Damage: Ok all damage in the pathfinder system is based on Dice variable mathematical equations. For the laymen, you role dice, get a number, add any modifiers, and the total is how much damage you do. So how does this apply to you as a descriptive writer on a message board? Let me try and explain.

When I post an adversary it will look like this

Goblin HD/1d10+1 Hp/6 AC/16 F/R/W=3/2/-1

This lets you know how many Hit Dice the Creature has, how many hit points, What it's Armor Class is, and what it's saving throws are.

For those of you who just reach intellectual geek Latin right there, let me simplify. Hit points should be a fairly easy concept. It how many points of damage one can sustain before falling unconscious. Hit Dice represent how experienced/powerful/tough the creature is. For instance any player character has a number of hit dice equal to their level :) . Armor class is the difficulty of being able to actually hit with an attack. This number has many many variables eventually, but for now know that even if you have no bonus to hit the above goblin you would have about a 20% chance of hitting the lil guy. So think about that before you hit every Monster you swing at in your combat posts ;)

Experience: This is where it gets tricky for me. In Pathfinder each monster, challenge, obstacle has a challenge rating that allows me to know how much experience to award. However since we are not doing the traditional dungeon crawl with monsters as stepping-stones to power, I want their to be incentive to good posting habits. Basically you will be receiving Experience (known as XP) for the Adventure as per normal, but also you will be earning bonus XP for good roleplaying, realistic combat posting, and for amount of involvement which will give you a bonus for a certain number of quality posts. (Sorry 1 line posts aren't worth counting for XP)

Leveling: THis is an area where I have some ideas but I need more. I tend to want a leveling system that requires training and focus on using of skills and such. So here is how it will tentatively be until I get more feedback.

YOU MUST POST A TRAINING LOG. This means you write a post during a period of downtime that in a story-like way, how you are training to gain the new abilities of that level. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE NEW ABILITIES UNTIL THIS POST HAS BEEN MADE. I will of course notify you all when a new level has been achieved.

Ok that is it for me for a bit. Please feel free to comment away.
