Open Office decided to fuck up. Now it says I need an administrator to run it. It really doesn't want to have to read that crap anymore.

:(

Long-time Lit authors could've told you that Open Office is set to disable itself if it encounters the phrase "Dear Penthouse, you'll never believe what happened to me..." ;)

Candi your computer just knows you need adult supervision.

Read that "someone holding you by the hair telling you EXACTLY what you are allowed to type."

I am totally up to taking volunteers for that.

Seriously, last night I was in the middle of a story and it just stopped working, shut down, and told me I needed an administrator. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it as the administrator- in an attempt to show that program who's boss, and after the installation, I tried to open it, and it said the same exact thing. That I am no longer allowed to write alone.

I'm googling that sumbich.

You are joking right? You know that you're the Admin for the site that you downloaded right?

Are you able to get into your previous written docs saved as OpenOffice and edit them?

You know its a .org right? http://www.openoffice.org/ I use it all the time for desktop publishing but have to save docs in other formats or PDFs cause if I send them to others that don't have OpenOffice they won't work for them.

My bastard MS Word only speaks American

Fuck a bunch of MS word....I'm forced to use Word at work but I'll be damned if I'll use any more Evil Empire software then I have to at home. I've been using Word Perfect since version 4.2. I'll stick with it.

I KNOW, right. That's why it's confusing me- it says I need administrator permission even when I'm specifically running as administrator. I don't get it. I've been all over the forums, and everyone's saying that if you uninstall and reinstall as administrator, it'll fix it. But it hasn't.

I've never heard of a computer coming to rescue us from bad fanfiction. If you want it to work you just have to tell it that if it doesn't cooperate bad shits gonna happen.

So you can't open any saved docs from your files or work on a current piece. Can you attach a doc to an email?

I am not even close to being smart enough to help. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Yeah- I can open them on anything else. I'm mostly pissed because I was right in the middle of a story and I hadn't saved, because OpenOffice has me spoiled, usually, it saves as temp files that can only be opened via openoffice, in case of a shutdown.

So I want
1: my story back
2: OppenOffice to work

I am officially pissed now. I've been all over the internets looking for a solution, found one for linux, but nothing for Win7, which is what I'm running.

For your OOo issue uninstall the previous version as completely as you can. When you do your re-install manually change the target directory - don"t overlay the current install.

After that - Switch to Libre

I moved from OOo and never looked back.

So there's basically no way to get back the story I was working on? :(

I hate when that shit happens...

You said you still have the tmp files created at the time of the app crash. If you recover a working OOo then you can access the temp files and you get your story back. I think a new install location is your best bet because that "administrator" error you are getting indicates to me that you have some DLL or obscure permission's issue.

Installing to a new location will not prevent you from opening the temp files from a different location. My recollection is each unique install uses around 40 or 80MB for tmp space so it will not impact existing data files.

If you want post the temp file and I can see if I can recover the content. It will be an interesting challenge. No promises.

Switching to Libre is just a preference on my part.
