My boyfriend and I have recently begun experimenting with bdsm. We tried handcuffs and I was left with some awful bruising. I realize that there are other types of restraints we can try but I don't want the handcuffs to be a waste of money. Is there anything they can be wrapped in to prevent bruising?

There are handcuffs that have fake fur on them.

You can use mens ties to tie up :D pardon the pun.

Rope, wrapped around then tied

When hard metal encounters soft flesh, the flesh will lose out every time. For handcuff lovers, the bruising is part of the fetish. Or else, you have to stay extra still so that they don't bruise you, which can be a hella challenge :cattail:

You could sew some tubes of fluffy fake fur and slide them over the cuffs, but honestly-- the hard metal is still under there.

Offer them up for sale or trade on fetlife or something.

Thanks for the advice :)
I think we may end up trying leather cuffs. I don't mind the bruises, I just don't want people to think he beats me. In a bad way anyway haha

You may wish to put some padding on your wrist prior to playing with the handcuffs. Anything from duct-taping some dishtowels around your wrists to getting an actual wrist brace ( http://www.mbseurope.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/pro-gloves-300x284.jpg ).

I would NOT recommend wrapping the handcuff itself as you could end up blocking the keyhole or jam fibres in the hinge and in the event you need to open them quickly, the quick access may be compromised.

*nods* Long sleeves are our friend!

And turtlenecks, as well. :cattail:

I don't know where you live, but there are quite a few options for Velcro, these days. Home Depot has it, and even Walmart has gotten into the club. They have various lengths and widths, but it all depends on what you have in mind.

I've purchased boxes that are two inches wide and up to 25 feet in length. If you're not familiar with Velcro, it's a product using a hook and loop method to connect things together. The boxes come with the soft (loop side) part and the more abrasive hook part (that snags the loop side) separately, and they both have a sticky backing. You just remove the film that keeps the sticky from sticking to everything, then stick the two sides together. Once you have the two sides stuck together, you can cut to length and use in any number of ways for restraints.

I prefer the two inch width, because it's not likely you will be able to get that to come loose, plus it's softer on the wrists because the wider width doesn't bind or twist, causing abrasions on the wrists.

Now the whole thing works quite well, as long as you make sure you put the soft side against your skin and make sure you have enough to go around your wrist or whatever and make enough of a connection with itself that you can't get it loose. Trust me, using the two inch width, you won't get loose.

And speaking of getting loose, it's also quick release, in case of an emergency, or even for a charlie horse or something. And it isn't likely that the sub can get enough leverage to get loose on their own, but if you are concerned that they might, add some mittens, before you put on the Velcro. no finger holes keeps them quite secure. I've used Velcro for attaching wrists to chairs, ankles to chair legs, and you can even use it for a belt, to keep the wrist cuffs in place behind the back.

To attach the two wrist cuffs together, you might look into getting some of those more hefty zip ties, or maybe you can use more Velcro. If you use more Velcro, reverse it so the soft part is on the outside, so that hard hook part doesn't rub against your wrists. It doesn't matter how you wrap it, because either way, it will attach to itself quite nicely. You have a strong sub? Cut your lengths a little longer so you can wrap it around a little more. The more that Velcro touches itself, the stronger your restraint is going to be.

I've seen these boxes in two colors, white and black. They both are the same, just the color is different. The only thing you need to remember is make sure you get the sticky backing and when you connect the two sides, be sure you do a good job the first time. I don't think it will come apart again, because they are quite sticky. It's not like it won't work if you connect them crooked, but it just looks better and there isn't any exposed sticky part to collect dirt and fuzz from maybe a carpet or bedspread. Or in my case, cat hair.
