Twenty some years ago you saw them everywhere, most with a "Baby On Board" sign in the window. Apparently they've gone the way of the Rambler station wagon.

I remember reading a review on them back in the early 90's. The reviewers noted how they were for shite to drive on ice/snow. You'd of thought that the Swedes could have at least got that right.

I had a GF in High School with a 142S and that little car was great in the snow. So was she, but that's fodder for another thread.

I used to work with a guy that had one and I nicknamed it the rolling commode, then one day he head-on'ed a Chevy and walked away without a scratch. That's the closest I've come.
 
I was IN a couple in the last week

They were junkers - didn't buy them.
Now, my brother once had a P544, and another P544. I think he bought the second one for parts to fix the first one. Those were fun cars. I always wanted the 1800S like the pic above. Sexy car.
 
My first car was a Volvo and there was a lot of love shared between me and that car.
I showed it some good times, but also did some quite unspeakable things in it....and come to think of it, on it :eek:
In return it showed me how to drive away quickly from sticky situations. I still miss that car. :(

My parents bought a '69 142 model new. The electrical system took a giant dump when the car was not quite 4 years old and had just over 40k miles. Ironically, they traded it in on a Pinto which they got 200k+ miles out of.
 
My second car was a 340. The wheel parted company with the half shaft, car slewed sideways, hit a collapsed dry stone wall that acted as a ramp and flipped the car over. I hit a tree upside down at about 50mph. Crawled out through the window, ciggy still in mouth, with a bruise on my collar bone where the seat belt had rubbed.

Volvo S80 is a good car.

Expensive, but safe and sustainable.
