I might be opening up a can of worms by posting this, but I might have tickets to go see a couple of the venues for the 2012 Olympic games. For those of you in England, specifically London, how are the preparations coming along? Will London be ready for the influx of people? I am trying to figure out where all the events will be held to see it will be worth flying over, only to spend inordinate amount of time just trying to get to each venue. There is nothing like the fervour that the games bring. I was at the 1996 Atlanta games. The expense of this trip however is a very intimidating factor. How many of you plan on staying while the games are going on?

I'm interested.

I'm not even interested enough to watch it on tv, I couldn't imagine going to see the olympics in person.

A bunch of athletes you've never heard of, playing sports no one cares about.

Sounds like good times:rolleyes:

It will seem like crap to the millions of people watching the games on their 3.5" diagonal screens.

It's the traffic that I'm pissed about. Special lanes just for Olympic people and sponsors. Given how fucked London traffic is already, it's going to be a bastard nightmare.

yes, but beach volleyball, dude. fucking beach volleyball.

also, other, less pervy sports that i also like.

All I know is that hotels have already started price gouging. Cost me twice the usual rate for a week at a decent central serviced appt. - in june.

So you better take care of living arrangments early on. Of they'll flay you.

if you try riding a bike in london you will die.
public transport there sux at the best of times.
you'll get a better view watching it on tv.

london 2012. just. say. no.

So host it on a fucking beach somewhere and I'll watch it on telly.

Last I heard the hotels were panicking because they had shitloads of unbooked rooms. Hang on 'til last minute and you can probably grab a steal.

Bullshit. Public transport in London is fantastic.

I wanted to go but it was just too much damn work to try and get tickets to anything much less anything interesting. Gotta jump through hoops to watch even the most unwatchable events.
I was hoping Chicago would get it next time so it might be easier but alas, the freaks in Rio got it.
I've never been to an Olympics and I'd really like to go sometime. Not gonna kill myself to do it though.

Maybe it's because I'm picky. I dunno.

I wouldn't count on getting a steal. Prices might drop some if they still have rooms but no doubt they have a price floor. Once it starts there won't be any empty rooms so they know they can push it to a given point. There might be a couple low end ones that panic and drop too much but probably not the kind of places you'd want to stay in. Well, maybe you would.

I'd say adequate. Definitely doesn't suck. And the city is one of the best in the world for just walking wherever you want to go.

Yes I tried riding a bike in London when I was younger. I had a hell of a time remembering what side of the road to be on! I also was the stupid one to go to London bridge instead of Tower bridge! I might have a place to stay, but how far it is from everything I have yet to figure out.

I stood next to Micheal Phelps one day. That guy is machine.

A favourite trick to play on American tourists is to send them on three changes and four tube lines when they could just walk out of the station and hoof it 100 yards.
