Educated or not, those who believe they are smarter then they are, will always crash and burn. A truly balanced intelligent person knows their limitations. The reason for that is they are always trying to expand beyond those limitations. If you don't know where they are or what they are you have no idea what you need to do to go beyond them.

That being said I will concede that it might have been a cry to be stopped. It was one or the other. Not knowing her I wouldn't try to guess which.

You are correct in that this type of case defies common sense. But that is also to be expected. If common sense and logic were part of the equation, it wouldn't happen in the first place.
