Police forces throughout the United States are being militarized and federalized. They are also being trained that the public is not something that they protect, but rather an enemy which needs to be suppressed and dealt with.
Do we really need our public servants being given military combat training along with military weapons/armor/vehicles? It's been theorized that the militarization and federalization of local/county/state law enforcement is more about fear, control, and intimidation of the public for various political purposes. And not stopping/fighting crime.
Should our beloved police officers really dress and behave like they are going off to combat in Iraq? Police are being trained (by the federal government) to be aggressive and bully-like, and to treat every citizen as a potential terrorist or criminal who is guilty until proven innocent.
This unnecessary overkill has resulted in countless injuries/deaths/use of excessive force against innocent people and petty criminals. For example, pregnant women being tazed and 80-year-old grandmothers being bodyslammed are just a few examples of this aggressive mentality.
Any soldier will tell you that military combat training preaches an offensive, and not defensive mentality. This is directly contradictory to how police are supposed to conduct their duties.
Also, here is an article about the wanton misuse of SWAT teams which result in completely unnecessary deaths and injuries.
In the end, this all boils down to fear, control, and intimidation to aggressively enforce the draconian laws, policies, and regulations put forth by shady and corrupt Washington politicians. The militarization/federalization/politicization of law enforcement at every level is also an essential step during the transition from democracy to totalitarian rule. Pick up a history book and read about the years following up to when the communists took power in Russia/China, and the Nazis in Germany. I guarantee that you will find chilling parallels to whats happening here in Amerika, the "land of the free".
Not even the US heavy infantry in Iraq/Afghanistan are as well-equipped as our increasingly aggressive police.
