So I've spent many years enjoying lit's extensive library of kink and enjoying the company of fellow literoticans in the lit chat lobby. This is the first time I've ventured into these forums and I'm curious how it's done here. Not as in basic mechanics but in the way people behave.... Is it very cliquish here? Do people gang up and bully people only to be discarded and turned on by a pack of wolves? I don't ask because I assume but rather because I don't and because experience in past forums has given me pause to ask. I have never encountered problems with Litters before and I don't expect them now but still I'd might as well ask :)

It ebbs and flows with the times. there have been times where everyone has gotten along so well there were litogethers and people met in person. There have been times where the conversations were so scattered we have all felt like leaving.

Right now is a time of relative peace (oh shit this sing sucks to someone with my musical sensibilities). There are a couple trolls here or there, but they are easily ignored even without the ignore feature of VBulletin being used.

Hello and Welcome to the AH. Have you tried to biscotti?

It is a great time to be here. There are many fun and knowledgeable people that are just a lot of fun to hang out with just as there are some that illicit groans from their presence. Fortunately, those are very few and quickly identifiable. Check out the many threads and join in where you would most have fun and don't be shy.

As you write stories yourself, make sure you put links in your sig so we can read them!

Enjoy!

Today's Pearls Before Swine newspaper cartoon does a runup on the raging "alright" vs. "all right" controversy.

Yep, I've been pegged. Thanks for keeping me honest. I like the slangy "alright" in chat context, but admit it really isn't a word. Give me enough time and usage, and I'll get the good ole lexicographers in Springfield to acknowledge it!

That's another thing I like about this place. Where else is this a "raging controversy.". Love it!!!

Speak about controversy! I can hardly believe that Pilot cited a title without setting it off in quotation marks or italicizing it. He's probably just smitten out of his diacritics by the appearance of a new Sex Goddess here in the AH.

Oh, by the way, welcome to the AH, SithSexxGoddess. And don't mind Ben; he's always dreamed of meeting a sexgoddess shepherdess. Do you tend a flock, by the way?

So right. And if anyone wonders which, it should have been italicized (not in quotes).

Are you sure of that, Pilot? Since the comic strip is a serial, I would have thought treating it like an article in a journal or a short story would have been more appropriate than italicizing it as one would a monograph title.

(Watch out, SithSexxGoddess; this could get nasty.);)

Yes, I'm sure. It's a program with separate parts. Like the TV program Bones. The separate program segments of Bones have titles too--they would be in double quotes. Pearls Before Swine is the title of the overarching cartoon series (on par with a journal title). (Chicago Manual of Style 16, 8.194, "Titles of regularly appearing cartoons or comic strips are italicized") :)

Hi, Sexx Goddess, and welcome to the Authors' Hangout. It's not a cliquish place; everyone here hates everybody else. Okay, I'm joking about that. This is usually a friendly place, but sometimes individuals do get pissed off at other individuals, and there are a few people, commonly referred to as trolls, who raise almost everybody's ire.

We do have discussions on some fine points of writing, such as the one going on now. Personally, I use italics or quotation marks interchangeably here, and quotation marks in my stories. I don't trust italics to be printed properly, so I eschew them.

We also discuss politics, and that can get quite vitriolic, but this is too early in this election year for that to happen. Occasionally one of us will post something about somebody doing something unusual, and we discuss that for a while. Some of us like to show pictures of grandchildren, and others disdain this, but look at them anyhow.

Welcome: The AH is fun.

Keep in mind that AH is like THE VIEW and infested with old Fag Hags.

Yes, JBJ, she gets the point that you are a troll with a lame sense of irony.

Welcome to the madhouse, SSG. Keep the shiny side up as there are proverts here. Oh, wait, that's me.

Welcome to the Pistachio Ranch, SSG. :D We're one big (occasionally) happy family and you're more than welcome. We always welcome fresh meat ... um ... I mean new blood into the mix. I suppose this would be a good time to mention it's AH tradition that all new female members should post nude pictures of themselves, usually full frontal although back and side shots are acceptable as well. Have fun and enjoy yourself. ;)

If you stick to the AH you'll be just fine. I have only been here a short while, and the folks here treat you in a friendly, respectful, open, and playfully bantering manner if you treat them similarly. I like it.

Enter the General Board at your own risk, and take some bleach to wash yourself down afterwards.

Cheers !

Bleach! Bwa haa haa! Too, too true. I love the AH, it's fun, restful, like being with friends. Then I take a deep breath and leap into the GB...I swear my blood pressure rises the second I hit the button...after a while, I have to come back to the AH to rest and heal.:rose:

I should be at least approaching the end of my newbie status, so I'd like to suggest a new rule. All MEN should post nude photos of themselves, front and back please. It's only fair! What say you, girls??

You wouldn't want to see a nude photo of me.
