Why Did Oliver Stone’s Son Convert to Islam?


Agence France Press reported yesterday that Oliver Stone’s son Sean converted to Islam in Iran. AFP made an error in its report, however, by asserting that the famed director is Jewish. Judaism is matrilineal and only Stone’s father is Jewish. His mother – ironically, given the nationality of the press agency – is French and Catholic.

But never mind. The question remains why would Stone’s son convert to Islam? A conventional answer might be the oft-cited links now between Islamism and leftism. But there may be another reason: Islam’s attitude towards women. Stone pere has been married three times, but his reputation as womanizer (and, to some, misogynist) extends far beyond that paltry number. Perhaps his son, in the tradition of the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, was seeking opportunities via Islam his father never had: simultaneous marriages, “temporary” marriages, divorce laws tilted notoriously in favor of men, etc.

Muhammad was first and foremost a revolutionary, a fiery religious guerrilla leader who created and led the first genuine national insurgency in antiquity that is comprehensible in modern terms, a fact not lost on the jihadis of the present day, who often cite the Koran and Muhammad's use of violence as justification for their own insurgencies. Unlike conventional generals, Muhammad did not seek the defeat of a foreign enemy or invader; rather, he sought to replace the existing Arabian social order with a new one based upon a radically different ideological worldview. To achieve his revolutionary goals Muhammad utilized all the means recognized by modern analysts as characteristic of a successful insurgency in today's world.

Muhammad's use of terrorism does not detract from Islam as a religion any more than the history of the Israelite military campaign to conquer Canaan detracts from Judaism. Over time the violent origins of religions are forgotten and only the faith itself remains, so the founders of the creeds come to be remembered as untouched by the violence of the historical record. In Muhammad's case the result has been to deemphasize the military aspects of his life and his considerable military accomplishments as Islam's first great general and the inventor of the theory and practice of insurgency.

Isfahan, Feb 15, IRNA – Sean Stone, son of American Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone, said on Wednesday that Islam is the religion of justice and equality.

Sean, who has converted to Islam in Isfahan and selected the name of Ali for himself at the age of 27, said that the Islamic teachings can help the western communities including the United States resolve the problems facing them.

He told IRNA in an exclusive interview that the capitalist governing system in the West and the US has created numerous problems for humanity.

The capitalist system governing the western communities is void of spirituality, thus increasing the sufferings of the mankind, he said.

He said that the people have displayed indignation over the current capitalist and liberal governing system in the form of protests they hold systematically in the western communities.

‘Unfortunately, those displaying grievances over the injustice imposed by the capitalist and liberal governing system in the worldwide Occupy protests are not aware that they would not achieve their goals in the absence divine religions and Islam as well,’ Sean said.

Asked to comment on how he converted to Islam, Sean said that he was born to a family whose father was a Christian and mother a Jew, so that it was very easy for him to accept Great Prophet of Islam Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

‘I’ve studied history and my study of the Islamic teachings helped me understand that Islam can lead the humanity to happiness.’

Oliver Stone’s Son Already Complaining He’s The Victim of “Islamophobia”…

(NY Post) — Sean Stone, son of controversial director Oliver Stone, converted to Islam in Iran last week and says he’s already experiencing a Hollywood backlash.
The ceremony was held in Isfahan, where he is researching a documentary. He now goes by the name of Sean Christopher Ali Stone.

He told Page Six: “I’ve already experienced the reverse of anti-Semitism, having people within the film industry express a reluctance to work with me now that I have said a simple prayer, ‘There is no God but God, and Mohammed is his messenger.’ I am sure I have [bleeped] off some powerful people.” Speaking over dinner at Barrio 47, Sean told us, “Having read the Koran and having been around the Islamic culture, especially in Iran, I do believe that Mohammed is a prophet of the same god worshipped by other religions.

He said his dad welcomed the move.

“My dad said, ‘Allah be with you.’ My father understands that I am trying to bridge certain gaps and bring about peace.”

But he has been shocked by the reaction from others. Sean, about to release his horror movie “Graystone,” said, “I didn’t realize I would be so vilified. It is almost like I am a criminal for having accepted Islam. I didn’t realize Islamophobia was that deep. People have speculated that I have done this because I am from a spoiled family or that I am lost and trying to find myself. That is ridiculous.
