The best guitarist?

nah clapton is over rated.

Page, Van Halen, satriani, Eric Johnson, Stevie ray vaughn! That's 5 rock guitarists better than Clapton. He was the man in Cream but after that.. playing and songwriting went down hill. thoughts?

Maybe and English people are way too conservative.

They do not know how to play real rock and roll music.

So if you're talking real rock and roll....like who? Gimme some names

easy question IMO Hendrix league by himself...

clapton, page, rhodes, eddie VH and segovia :)

You need to add Alvin Lee to this list.

good stuff but I'd put him on the second tier. Still great but not the greatest. Maybe with Angus Young, Alex Lifeson the guys from Iron Maiden and Judas Priest...and on and on?

The Who is a British band to my knowledge.

The English do not know how to play original rock music, because Rock and Roll is American music.

Chuck Berry can play genuine Rock and Roll music.

Yeah but in the end everything transforms or merges together. Songs get faster, people add distortion and different chords and scales. When does Rock and Roll cease to be Rock and Roll...at what point. Where is that cut off. Is AC/DC rock and roll?

I vote for Hendrix.

A few other ones I love.

The Edge from U2, makes an Ordinary Band fantastic.

Brad Paisley, after seeing him live a couple of times I was blown away by his playing.

I can't think of his name but the guy from Coldplay is great to.

Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmi Hendrix. This is hard one because I don't always know their names. I listened to a lot of metal music as a teen, and those bands have some awesome guitarist. I just never really got into finding out names.

However I do know of Stevie Ray Vaughn. My ex-boyfriend use to sit on the bed and play Stevie for me and sing to. He was awesome. He would play and sing Mary Had a Little Lamb, Love Struck, Leave My Girl Alone, Pride and Joy. Of course there were more, but these ones I remember clearly.

I also had a couple of guy friends who would bring their amps, guitar and bass over to my house when my parents were gone. They would Jam and play Metallica. I love listening to them play too. They kicked ass on "Master of Puppets.

Is AC/DC rock and roll?

AC/DC is an Australian band.

They can play rock-music, but it lacks the feeling because they are rich and they play in stadiums.

True rock and roll-music is a bit like a Finnish sauna.

Many countries have saunas, but only Finnish is a genuine. :catroar:

Rory gallagher, for a bog trotting papist the lad could play.

or Richard Blackmore.

its a subjective opinion.

Tough to pick one, some of my nominees:

Joe Satriani
Paul Gilbert
John Petrucci
Guthrie Govan
Steve Vai
Uli Roth

It is often said that the best guitar player is Eric Clapton.

But what do you say?

I only listen gospel-music. :cattail:

hmmm hear AC/DC doing lots of gospel music do ya?
My vote is for the fem crowd. Nancy Wilson (heart) Joan Jett was no slouch either.

One of my fav's is Ronnie Montrose of Gamma and a zillion other bands.
