onions and strawberries, oh my

My bowtie is bullet proof. Bring it on.

okay, we'll hunt strawberries and potatoes first...

ooooohhh... i've thought about growing strawberries, but i want to build a vertical structure to plant them. maybe not this year. i've got other seeds to get going. i don't know yet. i saw a cool one built out of cinderblocks. we had them in the yard growing up. to the strawberry patch with ya!

You watch out for them strawberries. They like to travel about, with them runners of theirs. Almost, almost as bad as mint.

Yeah, baby, and then

anything can be made from that point on.

Indeed, Anything!

There are hanging bags for strawberries, too.

Our climate is pretty nice for strawberries.

a bit of mint in the lawn makes nice smells when the grass is cut.

Ventured into the garden, first time in months and began trimming.

Cut down the mint, it'll grow back. Son number two and his girlfriend came over and both commented on how good it smelled.

Strawberries are basically sitting ducks.

No challenge, really.

Onions and potatoes... not so much.

There are various methods of hunting them, which can be important.

Especially when they're across the fence in your neighbor's garden.

All root vegetables are crafty and thus suspect. Spending all that time underground, conspiring with each other.

Give them the clippers.

Carrots, turnips, radishes

They grow well here.

They have a great deal of homework.

I haven't tried any vegetables here, just roses and shrubs.

i love mint when it takes over areas of the yard. one less need for grass.

it gets pretty hot and dry in the summer here. i've been focusing on plants that will survive the climate with minimal care and maintenance. strawberries need more water than i'm willing to allocate right now. one day, though. there are so many cool ways to build structures to grow them. i love the strawberry pots that are sold. so pretty. i bet you could build one out of recycled 2 liter bottles.

If the grass lets it... this grass in the back yard... had it covered up.

Oh do try planting in bottles.

Both of you.

That's it, precisely.

Grapes? They have nowhere to go.

But potatoes? — they have nothing to do all night and day but to figure out how to escape. And, they're underground. Think about it.

Hunting potatoes is probably the most challenging sport ever.

Once you learn the Potato-call, you can lure them towards you.
