Merry Christmas everyone! I thought I would share an article that I thought was very thought-provoking. Personally, I like the reasoning for Jesus being born during Sukkot. But ultimately, as the article concludes, it doesn't matter WHEN He was born...only that He WAS born.

Hi Handley, I cannot personally empathize with you, but with my BIL I understand. The treatment in most cases is worse than the disease itself!
My wife had malignant melanoma. Six years clean.
it was by chance caught. I told her to have a spot looked at.The dr gasped when he saw it. After it was taken care of, he informed us; if it wasn't caught when it was, in six months it would have been too late...
I pray he keeps you going too!

Things have been chaotic as they always are at this time of the year, but I had to share this. Our church service tonight was so beautiful. Our small choir sounded better than any from a church 10 times the size of ours. The cantata was so moving.

One of the things mentioned was the word NOEL is an old English word and is thought to be a contraction of the words ‘Now All is Well’. Perhaps English Lady or Ogg would know more about this. The thing I know is this:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
…And the WORD was made flesh, and dwelt among us.

NOW ALL IS WELL.

III.-A. Latin word, “Novella” which means news maybe the parent word of Noel.

IV. The best one (And my favorite) is "Now all is well".
A. We English speakers love abbreviations and making things shorter to communicate the same thing.
B. God be with you = Goodbye.
C. Fare thee well = Farewell.
D. Christmas morning = Now all is well = Nowell.
E. In the Old English and even today over in Great Britain they still use the spelling of Nowell for Noel.

I suspect that I'm not the only author out there who can identify with the conflict at the intersection of the erotic and a Christian life. Yet in my real life Christian circles, I don't know anyone who is reading erotica and I'm not sure what kind of market there is for these types of stories.

Does anyone in your real life circle of Christian friends regularly read erotica and admit it or are we forever exiled to virtual communities? I have friends who admit to reading spicy romances and mainstream fiction with good sex scenes, but I think they would flip out if they knew what I was reading (let alone what I've been writing.)

I can confirm that we Brit type folks do have a tendency to spellit Nowell.

I don't have any, no but I'm sure I've read about Christian Erotica before -all set after marriage I do believe. I can't remember when/where I read about them though.

A friend of mine from across the pond has just pointed me in the direction of this thread - she and I both have a faith background, and have been chatting for a while just between the two of us about all the sorts of issues that seem to be talked about here - Christians reading/writing erotic material, how we've reached our respective positions in regard to trying to reconcile our faith and interest in erotica.

I'll read back over a few posts here to get an idea of who's who, but - if it's not too forward of me - folk might want to take a look at some of the stories I've posted on Lit, especially the more recent ones, where I've tried to bring some aspects of my faith in. (C S Lewis said that some of his stories started as 'supposals', and a couple of my stories are of this kind - 'suppose an angel came to help someone, and discovered that she wanted to become human')

Anyway, looking forward to chatting more with you folks (and a Happy New Year to everyone, by the way, seeing as it's less than four hours to go - at least in my timezone ;-)

I just got home and was checking my e-mail and found one from my friend Mostera1. I was going to put a call out to all of you for him and his family at the passing of his brother-in-law, but I see he was able to do that himself.

Therefore, I will add my prayers to all of yours for God’s peace and strength for his family.

A time to be born, and a time to die;…A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn,…” (from Ecclesiastes 3)

I have found, in my own life, that I rarely know God’s reason when things don’t go as I would have them. I only know that, eventually, I’m strengthened by them.

The day finally arrived. Forrest Gump dies and goes to Heaven..
He is at the Pearly Gates, met by St. Peter himself.
However, the gates are closed,
and Forrest approaches the gatekeeper.

St. Peter said, 'Well, Forrest,
it is certainly good to see you. We have heard a lot about you.
I must tell you, though, that the place is filling up fast,
and we have been administering
an entrance examination for everyone.
The test is short, but you have to
pass it before you can get into Heaven.'

Forrest responds, 'It sure is good to be here, St.. Peter, sir.
But nobody ever told me about any entrance
exam. I sure hope that the test ain't too hard.
Life was a big enough test as it was.'

St. Peter continued, 'Yes, I

First:

begin with the letter T?

Second:
How many seconds are there in a year?

What is God's first name?'

tell me your answers.'

first one -- which two days in the week begins with the letter 'T'?
Shucks, that one is easy. That would be Today and Tomorrow..'

The Saint's eyes opened wide and
he exclaimed, 'Forrest, that is not what I was thinking, but you do
have a point, and I guess I did not specify, so I will give you credit
for that answer. How about the next one?' asked St. Peter.

'How many seconds in a year?
Now that one is harder,' replied Forrest, 'but I thunk and thunk about
that, and I guess the only answer can be twelve.'

Astounded, St. Peter said, 'Twelve?
Twelve? Forrest, how in Heaven's name could you come up with twelve seconds in a year?'

Forrest replied, 'Shucks, there's
got to be twelve: January 2nd, February 2nd, March 2nd... '

'Hold it,' interrupts St. Peter.
'I see where you are going with this, and I see your point,
though that was not quite what I had in mind....but I will have to give
you credit for that one, too.
Let us go on with the third and final question.
Can you tell me God's first name'?

'Sure,' Forrest replied,
'it's Andy.'

'Andy?' exclaimed an exasperated
and frustrated St Peter.

'Ok, I can understand how you
came up with your answers to my first two questions,
but just how in the world did you come up with the name Andy as the first name of God?'

'Shucks, that was the easiest
one of all,' Forrest replied. 'I learnt it from the song,
ANDY WALKS WITH ME,
ANDY TALKS WITH ME,
ANDY TELLS ME I AM HIS OWN.'

St. Peter opened the Pearly Gates,
and said: 'Run, Forrest, run.'


Lord, Give me a sense of humor.
