The ones who do make it tend to have very high intelligence. Usually an IQ above 115-125.

If you don't have superior intellect, chances are you won't survive in college.

I seriously doubt that. Perseverance and old-fashioned 'nose to the grindstone' are why most people do so well in college. Often, the ones who drop out are very intelligent, yet they are not willing to do the work. HS does not adequately prepare some students for college either. The parents are too busy bitching that their little darlings are above such hard work. And their little darlings believe it until their inheritance is gone.

Universities put hundreds of students in extremely large lecture halls, give them dozens of books (math, biology, English, science, history, economics, social studies) you have only a few weeks to read all of them, and they expect you to remember every exact bit of information in those books then take a 200 question test and give you two hours to complete it. Meaning that you have to answer one multiple choice question every 1.8 minutes. (is that math correct?)

If you aren't done with the test in that allotted time, they grade you out how it is.

I finished college and don't think I am exceptionally intelligent. It took my 6 years to get my bachelors of science in a specific field.

I worked my ass off that's how I did it. You don't need to be ridiculously smart, just dedicated

A BA usually takes four years and a masters/doctorate another four years.

A bachelors degree is nothing more than a litmus test for employers. It is the bare minimum requirement for a working career of any kind. Back 50 years ago you could go get a decent job straight out of high school, but today you have to finish high school AND college before you can start working.

Either that or you'll be forced to work the window at McDonalds or sweeping the floor at your local grocery store making minimum wage.

A BA is absolutely essential to a successful career.

My uncle (a patent attorney) makes $500,000 per year and went to some lame ass university and law school nobody knows about.

My state university (Arizona State University) is only $5,000 per year. As opposed to Harvard's ridiculous $40K per year.

I wouldn't recommend spending that much on an education unless you are extremely wealthy.

My stepfather is a successful lawyer who went to another vague and relatively unrecognized college/law school.

ignore my "am i on ignore question". that is very broad. but in a 'do i need a BA to be successful' kind of sense...money.

The only people who truly benefit from college are doctors, lawyers, engineers, and scientists.

A Bachelors degree in "X" field of study doesn't guarantee anything other than crushing debt and probably no job. It is nothing more than a silly corporatist litmus test required by employers. If you are applying for a job with a bachelors degree, you'd better bring something to the table to make yourself stand out from the dozen other job applicants with similar credentials as you.

A BA holds little value in our society because literally every other person has one. People in our society with college degrees are a dime a dozen.

Those with medical, law, engineering, MBA, and advanced science degrees are the only ones who have a good chance at starting a successful career.
