Man kills wife and baby, gets 80 years. Woman kills 5 kids, gets zero.

From article #2.

"No one should believe that she is getting off easy. She's going to be committed to mental health facility, probably for the rest of her life. And every time her medicine allows her to regain a little bit of sanity, she realizes what she did to her beloved children and then descends again into some sort of madness," CBS News legal correspondent Andrew Cohen said. "So this started as a tragedy and continues even with this verdict."

I would not exactly call this zero, this woman is going to be out of circulation for a long time.

Different situations, different sexes, different States but there is a common thread in that they both have serious mental issues and both are out of society for a very long time.

I do not envy the people who have to deal with this stuff first hand though a really out of control individual is removed one way or the other.

Andrea Yates has been incarcerated since her arrest a decade ago, first in prison and now in a psychiatric facility. Not sure how that adds up to zero.

I do think sentences beyond life are ridiculous, and without knowing all the facts 80 years seems punitive to me given the mental health issues and the guy's age. All these lives going to waste locked up forever, I don't think it's right.

I swear, LT, I really wanted to like you- but these threads have gone from entertaining to retarded. You need some new material- you risk becoming one dimensional and bland. And that's coming from me. And I'm a walking gay joke.

Please, please just fucking tell me, and assure the rest of the world, that you will not reproduce.

Your gene pool needs to end.

I don't think that's fair. Take me as I am, judge me for my crimes- but don't judge me by my parents.

Thing is that there are people who go seriously off the rails at some point. Furthermore the longer someone is in an institution the less likely they are to adapt to normal society. The justice system is somewhat handcuffed because if an offender is released and re-offends the responsibility deflects back to them.

Tough stuff. I think society as a whole has a lot to learn as well.

Your wife is a very lucky to be married to a man who has such a love for women!
Nice to see you are scared to death of discussing gender discrimination in sentencing. You're scared you might not get laid if you don't keep groveling.

A psychiatric facility is WORLDS different than a prison. Please.

I will NEVER stop talking about gender discrimination. People like you are woefully, laughably insufficient at intimidating me away from that. You might as well put me on ignore.

I will not ever be stopped or deterred. My arguments are perfect and the cause is just. Equality for everyone, humanity can aspire to nothing short of this.

Well you have to understand....she had just started her period when her mother called and when she went to the Xanax bottle and found it empty she broke out in a sweat...the pot stash? Kids got to it first...her heart was pounding and she was about to pop a vein. Ahh HA! she suddenly remembered that bottle of vodka stashed in the back of a cabinet...when she found it had been replaced with water by a booze thief...

Mom blew a gasket...totally understandable.

That other dude totally knew what he was doing....shame on him.

“Donna Fitchett called the murder of her two boys her 'greatest act of love', but in sentencing late last year Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Curtain told her it was her 'greatest act of betrayal'.
“Fitchett drugged, smothered and strangled Thomas Fitchett, 11, and his brother Matthew, 9, at their Balwyn home in September 2005. Justice Curtain sentenced Fitchett to 27 years in jail, with a non-parole period of 18 years.“...
A woman gets just 27 years for the brutal murder of two kids.

A man gets 80 years for killing a woman and a baby.

Do you get it yet?

Women frequently draw lighter sentences than men for the same crimes. Venue has a significant impact, also.
