Remember the quake a few months ago? The Washington Monument is still shut down pending repairs (which some rich guy just chipped in a few million for) estimated at 14 million dollars.

But, here's an interesting video of the engineers inspecting the outside of it.

Very cool. At least I think it's cool. You asshats may not though. Bunch of hayseeds.

I was going to post this yesterday, but I wasn't sure where the Washington Monument was.

Actually it seems a bit strange.

All the government construction jobs I see from the US are in matric...I guess that engineer just didn't bring the right tape that day

We avoid it whenever possible now. My current detailer switches all the Architects drawings to metric and then does the steel

And your house? Framed with 2x6's that come in standard lengths to the even foot? Or "stud" length, for an 8 foot high ceiling? Sheet goods are 4 foot by 8 foot?

Is there metric sheetrock in Canada?

How you gonna change that when 90% of our building products are exported to the US.

Block is all metric

I have tried to use metric in my furniture shop but all the standard stops on the tools are imperial.

When I make my own designs I do them in metric but its still a bitch to plane to 20mm with the stop at 19

All I see are excuses.....

But it doesn't really matter.....

Point made. :D

There is virtually no metric anything in Canada. We do use C for temperatures and buy gas in litres but otherwise it is business as usual. The idea of adopting metric was to facilitate international trade not for domestic consumption.

Canada is very much like Alaska if it makes you feel better. :)

It's similar, yet different. Nice place to visit.

And wine, in 750 ml bottles.

Right. Actually the penetration of metric in Canada has reached into food retailing rather extensively. I don't generally buy soda or wine so it did not occur to me right off.

Produce and meat are generally sold by the pound but canned and bottled are generally metric. You do see cans that are 454 ml. ie a pint so it is only a rough conversion.
