Because people assume the relationship is unequal and cynical, with one party taking advantage of the other. They assume the woman is looking for material gain or they assume the man is only interested in sex. Or both.

A lot of people, men and women, don't take younger aged women seriously. They think girls are stupid and materialistic and vain and sex-obsessed and selfish and nothing more and just dismiss them as being irrelevant to anything important. They can't wrap their heads around the idea that a man might be interested in a younger woman because of who she is as a person and vice versa.
