Florida, Kentucky, and Missouri, are now requiring drug testing for those applying for welfare and yearly testing for those on welfare. Are the benefits worth the cost?

It's already been shown in Florida that the costs are prohibitive vs. the small number of people that fail the drug test.

It's not cost effective but I've always been a fan of the concept. Be nice if they could fix it but probably won't.

I agree
I can't imagine anyone disagreeing that, drug addicts shouldn't get welfare benefits.

But its seems sorta silly to me to spend more money policing them then they actually get in benefits.

While I don't really like the idea of druggies getting welfare I also don't want them mugging me. So you have to factor in not only what it costs to police them but also how much less damage they do since they are that much less likely to rob me. I have no problem with testing it out in a few more states but Florida as was previously mentioned already proved that unless your goal is creating jobs (drug testers are employed after all) that it's a wast of money to test for drugs. Apparently even addicts can stay off their shit long enough to pass a test.

Drug testing in Florida is one of those patronage things we do every 5 years or so. We never catch many druggies, and its mostly to steer money to the drug testing labs. Plus it shuts up the people who wanna do it all the time.

I don't really have an opinion, but I'm just wondering; what do you consider to be welfare?

Is a drug addict ok to get welfare if he has a little piece of paper from a doctor saying "it's ok,"??? What about alcoholics...can they test for that too? oh wait that's not a drug addict because the gov makes a fortuine on liquor sales.. OHHHH and coffee/caffeine junkies....what about those folks on welfare buying that drug? Should they be prohibited as well?

I don't really care the answer...Just saying "dug addict" is really subjective.

Hmmmm, you can buy EBT cards here for 40 cents on the dollar. If people start selling them clean urine the poor folks won't have a dime.

Back in the day when people got actual food stamps they'd buy a pack of Kool Aid or something like that because they'd get the change in cash.
Nowadays here it's on a debit card type thing that's reloaded every month or week or however they do it. WIC still uses coupons but that's a different animal.

You cant get cash back on the card
However, you can rack up reward points, and get the cash rewards for the store you are shopping at.

Also, they do still give the coupons out, but they are harder to use and easier to sell

Why increase the cost of something that you already want to cut and do away with?

Oh....

Better then drug testing what about house inspections?
Why do they always seem to have a bigger better TV then me?

You mean the EBT card? Yes, you can get cash back on it.

That's old hat.

The current state of play is the push to drug-test people applying for unemployment benefits.

I should have clarified
I don't know the laws of every state
I suppose some states may give cash back.

I don't know of any state that gives cash back on food benefits
however, I did say some people get a host of other assistance
besides just food. And, Im sure some states load other benefits on
the card, to save money and paperwork
