Back in the 1950's and 1960's someone could get an exncellent, high-paying job right out of high school. But today, employers are demanding that you have at least a bachelors degree in order to work for them.

Is it still possible to get a good, high-paying job with just a high school diploma?

YES.
Stop limiting yourself and start thinking outside the box.
Go drive haulpak's on a minesite, and you can make $100k plus, for example.

Yes. It's called learning a trade.. look into it sometime.

You've done this thread at least twice before...

I dunno. Call into the Rush Limbaugh Show and ask him.

As I have a qualified opinion about vocational assessments, I suggest people learn what their aptitudes are, then combine aptitude with talent and enthusiasm, and go to work! Trees are known by their fruit.

Of course, in spite of Obama claiming you need a $50,000 a year education, you can attend any trade school and make a bundle.

Most employers DEMAND that you have at least a bachelors degree in order to work for them. 99% of their positions require a college degree.

A college education is nothing more than litmus test for employers, and it doesn't always guarantee success. The only people who really benefit from college are doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists, MBA's, and people with masters/doctorates in specific areas of study.

If everyone had an undergraduate degree, or more, than who would be left to do service industry jobs?

Seriously.

Everyone knows that these are low quality jobs, but that's the point.

I'm waiting to get a good job with a degree.
An Ivy League degree at that.

i know a lady who trains horses for a minimum of $20 an hour. she doesn't have to work everyday, or for very long. and she's the only person in the area who does this. she doesn't get rich, but she's happy doing what she loves.

but i think i know where mike's getting at. he wants a lot of money with little effort involved. ever considered bank robbery, crack salesman, or methlab?

or you can scale your life back to suit your situation. i've been told, you're so poor, you can put everything you own into the back of a small truck. yes, and i'm looking to scale it back to the point of where i can put it all on one horse.

Depends on what you consider a "good job". For me, a good job is one I don't hate going to every day & feel like I'm accomplishing nothing. It doesn't have to be a billion dollar job, but as long as it covers my needs, that's all that matters.

sure you can...just don't expect a high salary or hourly rate, unless you have experience. Think of it as padding your resume. Dont get hung up on a college degree...I know alot of very succesful people without a College Degree. Your success is what YOU make of it... don't sit round for hand outs...go out and make it.

I worked for years in the construction trades, before finishing a degree. Personally, I think a degree is more about commitment than getting you a job. If you have work experience and finish a Associate or Baccalaureate degree. You'll show commitment. But, it's the work experience that will give notice. I have seen some great education resumes...lack of work experience is a strike against. Getting a job is paramount. any job is better than no job. The more experience the more opportunity.

going from H.S. to college, receiving a degree is great, No work experience will not be helpful in the job world.

That's why it's good to get an internship while you are in college.
