You know this is a very big step forward. I think the picture is adorable.

Now on the other side of things I still suspect a bit of a double standard. I wonder how this would go over if it were two guys?

No doubt, and there would be nothing wrong with guys doing it. Except that, lets face it, two women are much more visually pleasing. MY wife is not into women per se, but a pic of a couple of attractive girls can get her going.

With two guys, its pretty much if you're not gay, there is really nothing attractive about it. And society has always seemed a bit more accepting of lesbians than gays. Well let me add, before Safe bet trashes me, more accepting of the image of lipstick lesbians. Two very mannish looking women would not go over as well either. No doubt about that--I mean, I'm sure those who are bigots are as unhappy with the ladies as they might be guys. And, on the other side, I know I'd still be cheering if it was two gents and still find their kiss adorable.

But, there is no question that all too many het men in this country were raised to have a visceral, violent reaction to men kissing, while seeing women kissing as a sexual fantasy. So if getting more people to accept gays in the military was the aim here, then this was the right choice, double standard though it may be.

Yes, I did. What I found are some radical organizations, such as The Huff Post, who oppose the TEA Party, and they quoted some individuals speaking against gays and lesbians. I have no doubt there are some individuals in the TEA Party who oppose sexual freedom, and I said as much in my post you are citing.

You may notice there is nothing in their abour sexual orientation. Everything is taxes and economics. The closest they come is in favoring individual liberties.

Baby steps are preferable to no steps at all. There is still a considerable amount of prejudice against Gays that needs to be overcome and some will never accept the lifestyle, but that is to be expected. For the military to do it's part in overcoming prejudice against Gays is a positive step forward IMO.

Presentation is everything. That photo would have been unthinkable even five years ago.

I think it shows psychologically that even in a same sex situation there is still a need for a feminine and masculine side.

You know why they say "there are no stupid questions?" Because-- a question admits of a lack of knowledge, and a request for such.

There are, however thousands and thousands of stupid statements, and many of them start off with the word "Obviously."

Not really. It shows that some people who are gender-polarised can find partners who are also gender-polarised in the opposite fashion. I know many butch gay men who are with other butch gay men, and plenty of gay male couples who carry on like a pair of college girls. Gender is not sexual preference.
