The capitalist system destroy creativity and dreams.

When people have everything he will become desensitized and apathetic.

The best writers have come from poor circumstances.

Have you ever seen a happy capitalist? :p

I've seen far more happy capitalists than I have happy comunists (even as a percentage as there isn't many real communists left).

You must be an expert, but I'll share something I experienced back in the 1970s when I was in the Army in West Berlin.
On one side you have a free, capitalist, vibrant city. On the other you have empty, drab streets and grinding poverty.
Here's a secret for you: The more capitalist the society you live in, the freer you are.

The North Koreans who regularly post here are the 1%ers of their world. They seem to be a happy lot.

Noth Koreans are poor but they are probably happier than those who living in the western countries.

A few days ago I would have thought this sort of statement was ridiculous, but as the open minded person I am, I've been reading and reading everything I can about the DPRK and also watching the sincere love and patriotism the people there seem to have for what we would consider to be a very difficult society to survive in and it makes me wonder. Sure, the answer will be its a show so the security police don't drag them off to a prison camp, but I also read an article about some North Koreans in China who are going back for the mourning festivities and I think there is some level of sincereness there too. I think that there are profound differences between the Juche form of Communism and that practiced in the old eastern block, that may be a factor.

And you know this because of all the time you've spent living as a NKorean proletariat? Or are you sitting comfortably in a capitalist society with a high standard of living, projecting your dissatisfaction with your life by assuming that poverty and subsevience of all personal liberties to the state better?

You do have the ability to emmigrate, you know...

I completely disagree.

The socialist system destroys all hope and prevents individuals from progressing, earning, achieving, and elevating their standard of living through their own efforts and by their own merit.

I've lived the extremes. The first decade of my life, my family of 5 subsisted on $20k a year - total. My father worked his ass off, went to college, and got a job that started him at $100k. Overnight we went from having nothing to having everything we could ever need. My father's efforts, and our respect for him and how he lived his life, led me and my siblings to achieve more and earn more scholastically and monetarily than he ever did.

I AM a happy capitalist. I know that the only things limiting what I can be, do, and achieve are my drive and determination. What a capitalistic society offers ME is an ongoing hope of better and more...and enriching my own life and the lives of my family members though my efforts. To top it off, I make a living as a writer. I create, compose, and produce art because of the opportunities afforded me by my capitalistic society - and I'm happy doing so.

As far as becoming desensitized goes....10% of everything I make goes to charity, 100% of the time, without fail. I'm involved in my community, I volunteer, and I don't live in an egocentric bubble with the money I've made. Don't blame the society for the personal failings for a few rich people; and don't lump all rich people together under one mass generalization that we're all unhappy, stuck-up, snobs....that's so very socialist of you.

This debate does not relate to communism.

North Korea related comment was just a guess.

Sorry Socialism doesn't fly in the U.S. Go on down to your local Occupy Peoria or whatever and whine with the rest of the "I want what they have without having to work for it lot."

I do not want anything that I have not earned.

But maybe some people are happy that they have a lot of stuff ;)

Okay it doesn't relate to communism.

What does it relate to other than a seeming disatifaction with captialism as an economic model?
Provide an example of any alternative that has allowed more people more happiness, and then you'll have an actual debate.

I do not blame anyone for anything.

Think of today's children.

They have thousands of toys.

They have never had to wait for anything and they have always given for all.

I do not think that they care about what they have.
