Is the Word "Faggot" the New "N" word?

Its their uniform most of us object to. It always screams I'M QUEER AND I'M HERE!

Interesting thought Jimmy. If you look at many of life's uniforms, I think the religious sects have them all beat and yet were revere them, how odd, lol. I look at the pics of Rennaisance royalty and what men wore then and if that doesn't scream something, I don't what will. It wasn't that long ago that the normal wear for men was a wrap of some kind. No one wore pants, as it was unheard of and thought strange. How the tables have turned.

It still doesn't come to terms with considering them normal. Dressing choice aside, they are still 'normal' people.

Tartans, gang colors, etc all do the same task. If youre about finding common ground you leave your team's colors at home, and wear them to the EXALTED RACCOONS lodge meeting.

Dominic Scudera describes his gay lifestyle:
7:30 a.m. I take a gay shower and let the gay water rinse off my gay body.

8:00 a.m. I have a gay breakfast of cereal with milk, and a good, strong, gay cup of coffee. I am fortified for another day of ruining the fabric of American society...

He goes into a lot of detail about the gay uniform, especially those adorable little hats and sashes. :)

That's freakin' hilarious!!!!!!

It's also part of the reason why I believe some of us choose to keep our sexual choices private - especially those of us who are bisexual. Too many pinheads at both ends of the spectrum are too interested in branding us as one or the other. And once we're branding as being "one of them," our voices vanish. It's such a joy to be considered a threat to both the hetereo and homosexual communities. Though it IS funny when my gay friends will seek my authoritative opinion concerning matters of heterosexuality since, you know, "You swing that way, too." While my in-the-know heterosexual friends will quite often say the same thing for the same reason.

I will say my homosexual friends, in general, are more accepting of differences than my heterosexual friends. But I can say the same thing about my Democratic friends versus Republican friends. Or my Wiccian friends versus my Christian Fundamentalist friends.

Meanwhile, I've very content to be in the middle, standing on the fence, and collected the sweetest fruit from the higher branches on both sides, scratching my head as I channel Rodney King's inane, "People, I just want to say, you know, can we all get along?" It's our differences that keep things interesting, including our differences of opinions.

It's very common for gay couples to not hold hands in public, for fear of reprisal. I guess you never hold hands with your girlfriends either, huh?

Just in case some intolerant gay person sees you together, and throws a beer can at you. Yeah, that makes sense.
:)
Which reminds me:
Today at 2:30 PM PST, the 9th Circuit will hear appeals on whether to dismiss Judge Walker’s ruling that Prop 8 is unconstitutional simply because he's gay, and whether to keep video recordings of the trial from the public. You can follow along, if you want, here: http://www.prop8trialtracker.com/

Oh, Stella, I do NOT mean to suggest that openly gay couples do not face HUGE challenges in society. I know they do and apologize if that's how my words came across. You're 100% correct, I can express my affection towards a female much more openly than I can with a male. It sucks having to look over your shoulder 24/7 and feeling as if you're not allowed to just be you. I've seen similar things happen to mixed race individuals as well as friends and family who are in mixed race relationships. I guess I'm still stinging some from yesterday's banter with Safe_Bet.

Until we reach the all accepting, all embracing society we wish to occupy - I believe we each carry an obligation to root out prejudice in all of its guises and actively work against it in all the ways we can muster as individuals. For some, it's how we raise our children. For others, it's marching in a parade, holding a protest, making a stand in court or... dare I say it: asking a potentially moronic question in an open forum to double check oneself.

The fundamentalist Christian who, in the privacy of their voting booth, votes in support of gay marriage, to me, is important to the movement, too. As much as two men openly kissing in front of the polls? That's a matter of opinion, but I won't disrespect one for the other. Correct minded people need to do what they can more often and we'll get there. But then again, I'm an eternal optimist and dreamer. I always have been. I blame my mom.

Ugh, fucking political bullshit.

I will say my homosexual friends, in general, are more accepting of differences than my heterosexual friends. But I can say the same thing about my Democratic friends versus Republican friends. Or my Wiccian friends versus my Christian Fundamentalist friends.

You had to bring politics into it. Fine, but I don't see any "Log Cabin" democrats.

Democrats just say "Well my party agrees with you" instead of choosing to outwardly stand out against the grain.

Sure there are exceptions and blah blah blah. Who cares what party says what, they both, and all, say nothing but tag lines and bullshit for elections.

This is about culture and speech, not politics. 'Nuff said.

Gay marriage will not make you happy, ask the straight married people.

Now for this bullshit. Gay marriage, or marriage in general, or social unities, can ONLY be regulated or modified by a Constitutional Amendment so that state law does not circumvent federal. There is not a federal definition of marriage, so that must be formed by everyone, gay and straight and bi alike.

If you believe your point of view to be correct, then why not let the country as a whole vote their belief?

More than one version of an amendment can be circulated, and if the vote goes against what you believe, just look at the repeal of Prohibition or Slavery and try again.

I understand and believe that anyone has the right to tie and bind themselves to another person legally. I have no problem with the institution of marriage, hell, you could marry a fruit cup for all I care, but it's not up to soley me, or you, in a 'democratic' society.

Just remember, out of the gay unties that have been made, some are already divorcing.

This is some bullshit that the GLBT community is choosing to circumvent at the local level. Do it the way everyone else does, or shut the fuck up. Your differences, like everyone else's, do not make you more special. Same problem I have with NORML, and the environmentalists.

Start federal, use the Constitution - that's what it is there to do - the courts do not set or regulate law, they should only interpret it.

If it turns out that no one agrees with you, or that people strongly disagree, get over it, we're not all the same, and quit trying to sneak through with "well we have legal precident so we win" type of bullshit.

Nope.

PAYDAY will benefit from reading the federal DOMA law.

Absolutely not, I willn't benefit, that vaguely written UnConstitutional 'bi-partisen' hubbub just makes me apathetic to law written during trumoil without full concensus.

I know what I wrote. :)

First of all, no we won't shut the fuck up! Sorry, it it doesn't fit nicely in your str8, white, male dominated world, but deal with because we are going to LOUDLY fight for our human rights - just like everyone else!

BTW, Butt Cup, nobody is claiming to want "special" privileges. What we are DEMANDING are EQUAL rights. 'Member that pesky "equal protection under the law" thing?

Oh, and no... You don't get to "vote" on my human RIGHTS. That's what makes them a right, dude.

Here's a thought I've pondered since I started reading this thread.

Why does it always boil down to a name? Seems that is always the issue with everything.
Human rights are denied because we put a name on someone and made them different. We create a distinction between us solely because we put a name to something and said they were different for doing it, so it's not acceptable.

Is a name really necessary? Does it mean so much to have that distinction and continue the controversy? I try to think of a scenario where a young child sees two men or two women holding hands and asks his parent about them. Without a name, the answer is simply, "two people who love each other, son."

Utopian sure, but it still comes down to a name. Apparently 'straight' people don't have a name, so they feel left out and dislike those that do.

So payday, I now have two questions to ask you:

One: in what way is "Fag" an insult in your mind?

Two: What extra special rights are GLBT folk demanding that the "normal" people don't already have?

I know PLT hates when I call him a poofter. Also hates when I call him a faggy little asslicker and just about anything else. He cries I'm anti-GBLT and discrinating against them, when in actual fact, I just like pissing the mouthy little fuck off. So what name does he take offence to? He's admitted to doing it, so where is the issue? Is it just who it comes from? Would it be just as offensive to him if a friend said it to him.

Does his sexual orientation piss you off? If not, then why bring it up? Lots of people love to hate Pilot (I'm not one of them, btw), but if he pisses you off, then say why and don't stoop to bashing him for being bi, gay, or however he chooses to identify himself.

Sorry, guess you didn't catch what I was saying. I have no issue with PLT's orientation, no what-so-ever. I like pissing him off because he takes offence whenever I say anything that comes close to talking about GBLT people. See, I have to keep putting a name to everything. lol.
We have a long standing feud over things said, back to when Suzie graced our pages. People have even gone back to read what was said and laughed at him for his attacks on me. So I just call him names to piss him off and let him go into a frenzy and break a nail or heel or something.:D

My Suzie???

This is why you have problems with integration.

Way to totally miss it. Awesome. You should teach classes. I have an idea, why not totally highlight the cynical part of an idea, and skip the facts. Better yet, why not ask a question that's clearly been answered more than once. Awesome. Epic even.

Interesting thread.

When did the word 'fairy' begin to be utilized to diss homosexual men and why was that one chosen?? I always thought fairies were those humanoid things that flew around in the woods on gauzy wings and made Pinocchio a real boy.

Consequently, the line 'There are fairies in the bottom of my garden' and the book title 'The Fairie Queen' by Edmund Spencer usually will evoke snickers among school kids, much like the poem title 'There Is No Frigate Like A Book'.

The English language is constantly evolving, as do it's ethnic and sexual orientation insults ... twas ever thus. Some so-called 'normal' people will never be truly accepting of others who don't fit their prevailing norm matrix and so the derogatory names continue to proliferate. It may be annoying and provoke anger in those who are not 'normal' and that's fully understandable.

I think the average person is indifferent to race and sexual orientation as opposed to the bigots and the intolerant among us. Unfortunately, intolerance is ingrained in human nature (think xenophobia) and only education, familiarity and time will change that.

Pffffft.

Way to ignore being called on your homophobia, dude.

Here, I'll simplify it for you:

• There is no need for an Constitutional Ammendment. I'm already guaranteed the same rights you enjoy. The only difference is I have to go to court to fight for them.

• I don't get to vote on your human rights and you don't get to vote on mine. That's what makes them RIGHTS as opposed to privileges.

Now go back to acting ignorant. You do it so well. (ya must have LOTS of practice!)

No, I get it. I just don't understand it.

And what would you suggest we do when they not only slap the other cheek but tie us to a fucking fence post and torture us to death?

It must be nice to live the white, straight, male privileged world that you live in dude, but many of us don't. That doesn't mean that we don't have the right to human dignity and the right to go though life without being insulted or demeaned. (or told by some str8, white asshole to stop crying)

Okay first off, there is a far cry from someone slinging an insult to what happened to that poor kid. That was one of the most brutal crimes of our lifetime and nothing they could ever do to those pieces of shit would be what they deserved.

Having said that, we are speaking of the word itself and people's warranted/unwarranted sensitivity to it.

It is an ignorant term if it is used against someone whom it bothers. I use it sometimes in jokes even those made to a couple of gay friends I have and they don;t care because they know I'm screwing around. If I am aware of someone being sensitive to it, I will not use it.

It like the word nigger, or spic or any derogatory is simply used by ignorant people whom you shouldn't give a rats ass what they think anyway or people looking to get a rise out of you and people should not give them the satisfaction of letting it get to you. It is high school bull shit.

Two weeks ago at a bar I beat a guy at pool and he started bitching and moaning. I told him to lay off the booze , grow up and go home. His retort was that "Your wife sucks cocks through a glory hole" I guess by your standards I should have gone over there and kicked his ass.

Instead I told him "Pf course she does, how do you think I can afford the house I live in?" I mean really, it doesn't all have to be a personal affront and a chance to cry martyr.

And please do not give me that "straight white world shit" You don;t know me. Yes I'm straight, yes I'm white. I'm also a survivor of a horrific childhood and have dealt with my share of adversity.

And if you want to start pointing fingers and getting an attitude you know what? I had no recourse no why? Because I'm straight and white. There are no support groups for us, and no sign carrying, martyr for the cause crusaders ready to leap to my defense.

How does that sound? Ignorant? damn straight it does, and I don;t really believe a word of it. I am making a point that, that is what you sound like. In life your color, sexuality or religious belief should never be a reason for people to hate you, it should also never be used as a crutch or an excuse.

Although you and I have never had any contact that I remember, I have read many of your posts. You are a bit of a man hater so I don;t expect you to agree with me. For the record I don;t blame you. My wife volunteers as a councilor at a home for abused women. And I teach self defense to them one night a week. Over time I've learned to hate many men as well.

as for the subject at hand, sticks and stones.

You know you should really lay off the gay jokes to Pilot. He's as straight as an arrow. His "bi sexuality" is a marketing ploy used to help him sell books in GM. You're playing into his martyrdom.

Then again it is funny to watch him get self righteous over an act. Consistent he is, if nothing else.

And where the hell did you get "poofter"? Not sure I have ever heard that before.
