Quick questions on feedback protocol

Hey there...

I'm still a huge "noob" around this community so I take that fully into consideration with my question!

Back in January (2011) I started two erotica tales, one of which is a more serious venture that I want to eventually become a full length erotica thriller novel. The other was an exercise - I read on one of these "writing erotica" sites a valuable piece of advice for those getting started in the writing of graphic material when they've never "gone there" before, and that was to take the most uncomfortable, disturbing, cringe producing theme you can come up with and practice making it sexy. I did that with the second tale and went with incest theme because it creeps me out. In order to pull that off and maintain some kind of objectivity, the only way I managed it was to forget the characters as written and imagine two hot people and overlay that onto the creep factor. In the end, I thought it turned out pretty steamy. (I also made sure to add a huge disclaimer about why this story was ever written, in a text file in the folder, just in case I die and cops end up with my laptop, they won't think I'm a total perv! :D )

Anyway, I wanted to submit them here but they're not finished and already way longer than the 750 count, and the creepy one I think might skirt the rules on here about age - but I'm not quite sure. While there is no actual thing with the father/daughter theme with her being underage, there is a flashback segment where she is telling him about it, and I stopped it where I thought that would be the appropriate line in the sand without losing the point of the scene, which for this tale is actually moving the plot. Gist is, there was an incident when she was 14 that she initiated, he was on the verge of responding when it was interrupted by other family members, and he'd forgotten about it until years later...and she's pointing him back in time to remember it and figure out who she actually is.

So, not sure how much of that particular scene would be skirting it or against it entirely. Not that it matters because by chapter 4 I'm already at over 20k words :D

What I was wondering is if there is an acceptable way to put that up elsewhere, on my site (when I get it revamped, anyway) and request feedback here, with a link there - so it's not 'on' Literotica but I can get some helpful feedback on that 'line' and the rules, etc. and of course whether it works as a story or not...the regular feedback on form, style, structure, turn on factor, etc.

I thought it'd be best to ask first instead of posting a link, I'd rather polish it up and work on a legit submission when it's done, but I really am not sure whether or not that particular scene is doable or not and could really use the feedback.

As for the erotic thriller, well...what happens when your characters decide for you that instead of a steamy, erotic thriller, an erotic comedy of errors is way more fun? They've all totally gotten away from me and my original smoking steamy plot and now they're cracking jokes and doing whatever the hell they want. They've hijacked their own story! Problem is, I really like it but can't help feeling that it's pulling away from erotica and adding some sex in is beginning to feel almost gratuitous.

Any advice for corralling your characters back, or do you let them do what they do even if it starts shifting your original premise?

Thanks for the comments that may come!

750 words is the bare minimum for a story to post here, not anything like a maximum. There is no maximum, and 20k words isn't long for here.

I was going to note that there are virtually no protocols here, but posting only internal links for feedback (material posted to Literotica), would, I guess be a website protocol. Asking for feedback here on stories posted elsewhere and not here wouldn't really be acceptable to this the website administration here, I don't imagine.

Thanks ;-)

I must've misread the word count rule then...I can hardly write an email that's 750 or less :D

If I submitted the one creepy one, and if it's rejected based on my noted concern, do they explain the reason for it or make suggestions?

They give a reason that many find head-scratching. It's rarely much more than a ballpark explanation and is in the form of a question. (The initial screening is done by computer program bot that just looks for various problem words/phrases/punctuation/formatting).

The only suggestion they'll make is that you find a volunteer editor to help you make the submission acceptable. Many find this unhelpful, as volunteer editors have become a rare species here.

You might be surprised what just sails through here, though. No need to assume your story is in trouble until it happens.

What would you suggest as a way to have it looked over before an official submission?

I guess, too, I could submit it all up to that point or just before but it would make it hard to add the rest of it later with that one section missing. I don't have issue taking it out, but my question is to have someone check it out and see if it is doable or if it'll get flagged. Just not too sure what the leeway is, so wanted to be sure either way beforehand.

I suggest that you finish it before posting it anywhere. Then, if you wanted it edited before you posted it, you could seek an editor on the Editors board here. Some find help that way.
