It has stood tall for over 4,500 years, withstanding wars, freak weather events and even the occasional revolution. But on Friday Egypt's Great Pyramid of Giza was confronted with what some feared would be its biggest threat yet: two crystals, a "ceremony of love" and several hundred "human angels" seeking to form a protective shield around the earth.

The tale of Giza's brush with new age spiritualism – which ended with the popular tourist attraction being partially closed off to visitors following newspaper reports of planned Masonic rituals inside the pyramid – has gripped Egypt for days, after reports surfaced that shadowy groups were planning events at the site to mark the palindromic moment when the clock ticked over to the 11th minute of the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month in the 11th year of the new millennium.

What began as a single meditation ceremony planned by a Polish organisation – who claimed their activities would help save the earth from cosmic catastrophes – quickly mushroomed into something far larger, with outfits as diverse as the "Universal Kabbalah Network" and the "11.11.11 Gathering of Souls" announcing that they too would be converging on the last remaining ancient wonder of the world to hug, worship or simply climb inside the structure and be healed by the sacred power within.

Okay, Authors--time to put on your idea caps!...so, if you were writing this story, what would you say would happened if these folk had actually enacted their ceremonies at 11 after 11 on 11/11/11? :devil: Don't forget to make it erotic!

That does sound like an interesting story plot. Will have to think about that one. Having been in the pyramids, though, my first thought about being in one is "how in the hell do I get out of this place?--right NOW."

That's how my dad felt when we were touring a submarine in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Apparently Dad doesn't like tight spaces. He told me he couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Yeah, have been on a submarine too--a moving one--but the pyramids were worse. Climbing a ladder on an incline up a small shaft, your nose in the butt of whoever is in front of you (which contibutes to the plot bunny) and ending up in a black-walled chamber about 20 x 30 feet with no air moving. About as pitch black when the lights go out as it can get. And I was fool enough to do it twice. At least on the submarine there was light and objects around (to try to avoid being gouged by) and there was air conditioning.

Well, one is expected to live and work in a sub. The intended occupants of a pyramid aren't suppose to be moving around--or needing air or light for that matter ;)

However, from what the article said, I think most of the folk (though likely not all) were aiming to connect with the pyramid on 11/11/11 by surrounding it or putting a star on top of it, not entering it. Seems like the, um, spiritual energy they were hoping to invoke or send out was suppose to use the pyramid shape to do the job, never mind what's inside.

I think if someone said they attended and participated in a shit eating contest you'd say you were in one too.

I was once given a very special tour of some catacombs under an ancient cemetery, were you there too? You could have been and I would have just mistaken you for just another stiff.
 
I'm not going to apologize for being places you haven't, Swiftboater. (I haven't been in your warehouse, so you've got me there.) Yes, I've been in catacombs--but not THE catacombs. I haven't been to Rome . . . yet. But, again, I have no responsibility for your limited experiences in life.

Being both claustrophobic and really, really not fond of deep water, a submarine is my idea of Hell. So I'll just give them as well as the pyramids a pass thanx. Y'all have fun.

Nah, I'll be down on the banks of the Nile casting. I've got this batch of ants I just tied and need to try them out. But when everyone is done with their chant I may have a fish fry ready.
