On Friday, I ate my first "authentic" BBQ, in Texas. The dish I ordered was the beef ribs (small size) with baked beans and coleslaw.

I have read the smack talk about Texas BBQ here so I feel it is my duty to defend the Lone Star State. Those were, hands down, the BEST ribs I have ever eaten in my life...and I have eaten some ribs. WOW! I am used to BBQ ribs being saucy and sticky but, no, these were almost dry on the outside but the meat was like cotton candy. Soooooo tender and soooooo flavourful. It was like angels orgasming in my mouth.

Also, the baked beans were very delicious.

Let me also just add how impressed I was with the friendliness of the Texans I met and the hospitality I was shown everywhere I went. And once people learned I was Canadian, I was practically treated like royalty (having traveled from a far off and exotic land, ;)). True, no one knew anything about Canada, but that's to be expected. (Clerk at the gas station: "Do you have the same money as us?") All in all, I give the people and the BBQ two Texan-sized thumbs up. :D

That's 'cause we make the best BBQ.

;)

But yes, Texans are generally very friendly people... the only unspoken rule is to never introduce yourself as a "Texan" unless you were born here (hence, the bumper stickers that say "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as quick as I could"), but even that goofy tradition is dying off.

LOL! I didn't see that one.

My only complaint was the lack of good tea (something about the quality of the water, I think) but it's a luxury I can live without for a few days. ;)

Its why they drink sweet tea that's sugary enough to stand a spoon up in there.

I miss Texas BBQ.

So the only smack talk will be the sound of K, ribbing it up...

;)

Yup, melty moshing thrashing drippy angels. Totally. I am now officially craving really good BBQ again... thanks. :D

LOL, I'm glad you enjoyed it. (Even if it was icky barbecued beef.) ;)

I won't say anything nasty about Texas BBQ, because I'm sure it's fantastic. I've never had it, personally, but it sounds fantastic. Like I've said before, I don't think there is really any bad BBQ, it is all just different. I'm glad you enjoyed the Texas style. But, just to let people know...we have orgasming angels up here, too. BBQ, it's all good.
