My Friday began very early. It was to be the only day this week I went OUT to work because of the school breaks. TRT booked two days holiday to occupy the children. And, it was going to happen, an unpleasant task had to be done and it was the day a company was going to eventually lose its trading standard certification. There time was up and I knew they were going to fail my audit.

It was not a pleasant experience. Even with notification of my deadline inspection at 8am this morning, they made no attempts to make required improvements on behalf of my clients requests. In essence, they ignored something that was vitally important and they in their wisdom (the executives) made no efforts to correct failures.

I failed them on 12 out of 15 committed improvements. Three of the failures were urgent requirements by the trading standards authorities. They thought I'd turn a blind eye to these failures and I did my job and refused. This ended in a heated debate in a boardroom. Me against six men. My first conflict which I knew was coming. I held strong, despite their attempts to tell me what my job is and that I was being unfair for many reasons, all based upon profit making ideals.

Now over the next few weeks they will have their certification removed and lose important contracts, including my clients contract. A new supplier is already in place with more concentration to quality standards. Unfortunately, my client is forced to import from Europe, no longer able to trust in UK manufactred components, a product which has very tight tolerances in its dimensional measurements.

I finally got back home after lunch and took a nice refreshing bath to help me relax. Despite it being my birthday, which I wanted to forget about until tomorrow night, my children and hubby made an effort to make the rest of my day pleasant. Now I feel better
