Just wanted to let you know that McRibs are on soft sell starting today, all stores have to start selling by 10/22 and national advert starts 10/25....

Since you have an insider....;)

They are completely disgusting from a health standpoint....but my jeebus they're DELICIOUS!!!!!!

Thank you, thank you, thankyouverymush! (Best Elvis impersonation... {not very good, lol!}) :rose:

And yeah, HM, they don't seem to fit into the nutritionist's pyramid of healthy stuffs to eat... but who gives a damn? They're GOOD! :D

I, uh, may or may not have gone and gotten one a few minutes ago.

McD's now has an iPhone and Android app that includes, among other things, all the current nutrition information. As for the McRib, well, to quote one of Jack's best characters, "You can't handle the truth!"

It can't be that much worse than any of the rest of their food...can it?

Woowee!

48% of your daily sat fat limit and 65% of your daily sodium limit in one little snacklet! And let's be honest - nobody's going to order it without fries too!

....but Bunny's right - the Big Mac beats it with 52% for sat fat and 67% for sodium

You know, that's not making me want one any less. ;)

Do they even make these in Australia? I've never encountered them here before, so if not... I guess I'm going on holdiay. :D

I recall them popping up in the UK at one time and trying one. I love junk food, but I hated the McRib - just tasted of sugar to me.

When I have a bit more time, I'll check the global (internal) website. :)

I do believe that they tried it over in the UK and it flopped. Jounar said you all are just not huge bbq fans. But I'd have to look into it more to know if this is accurate.

I'm seriously baffled by the McRib love. I mean, I will eat fast food a couple times a year, usually on a road trip, but there's nothing about the McRib that suggests BBQ'd ribs to me. And I LOVE real BBQ'd ribs. Isn't the McRib just pressed pork and sugar?

No offense Wenchie, I wouldn't eat it if Burger King made it either.

It's the second to last thing I would eat off a McDonalds menu. (The last thing being the McFish, of course).

Maybe I have weird taste buds?

Well...you ARE Canadian, right?

But is this sandwich suppose to be a true pork rib incarnation? It's fast food. There's no rib in there, but the meat is formed to look like ribs. The sauce is tasty. They have used just one of the many different types of sauce in the BBQ world. It's tangy, yet sweet and the pickles add a bit of sour to the mix.

Is it real pork BBQ? Well, it's a fast food, so no. I live in the mid-west U.S. which is one of the meccas of BBQ. There are so many different tastes for someone looking for BBQ in my city, it could make your head spin. There are sweet sauces, sweet and sour mix sauces, hot sauces, dry rubs, marinates and various combinations of each.

We have more than a few contests where people come from around the region with their cookers, their smokers and their secret family recipe. We just had one. The American Royal BBQ. You can stand a couple miles away during that outdoor fest and just take in the different aromas...heaven to the nostrils.

As for healthy, I don't think true BBQ is really that healthy for you. If you're concerned about healthy eating, you won't care for BBQ. If you do find a healthy BBQ sauce, I don't think it will taste very good. As for the McRib, it's not true BBQ, but the sauce has a hint of BBQ, and so you can fool yourself into thinking it's real BBQ, to satisfy your hankering.

I don't venture into the McDrive that much, except for their breakfasts, on occasion. There is a golden arches just about every couple miles. But, even though I know what real BBQ tastes like, and I know that the McRib is far from real, I often find my car turning into the lot for one...or two, and with fries, of course, when they're around.

I wonder if I'd enjoy them quite so much if they were always on the menu. Maybe I'd get burned out on them, and not care for them any more. I guess that might be part of their marketing tactics. I don't know. But I don't think about health or real BBQ so much when eating a McRib. I just like the taste. God, did I just say all of this out loud?

You do. ;)
Fillet-O-Fish is McAwesome! Lol

BLECH! The only way I would eat a McFish is if I was literally starving to death and it was my only option.

I love fish, BTW. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

The McFish defiles fish.

I don't eat BBQ for my health. I rarely eat BBQ anything.

(I have just learned, from my Texan friend, that what I used to think was BBQ'd food is actually "grilled" food. Apparently the difference is the sauce. I eat quite a bit of grilled food. Here, anything cooked on a BBQ we say is BBQ'd. My friend tells me that I am a Philistine for calling grilled food BBQ).

But if I am going to eat unhealthy BBQ'd ribs, I'd just rather eat the real thing.

I think I've had this discussion before. And while I understand all of what you said, DVS, it still baffles me. ;)

The McFish is kind of like the McRib. It's not a real cut of fish. It reminds me of fish sticks. A McFish with cheese isn't too bad or maybe with some ketchup. But, I grill, too. And yes, that's just grilling, but it adds a flavor to food that cooking another way doesn't give. I think you can grill most anything and add to the flavor. Grilling might be more of a purist way of becoming one with your food and fire.

But your Texas friend is right in grilling is not BBQ. BBQ is so much for the individual taste because of the addition of the sauce and the preparation. It's almost a science. The seasonings and spices in the recipe, the chosen wood, if it's cooked or smoked...it's also partly the ceremony. Dare I call it a religion?

I don't know if you've ever been to a BBQ cook off, but it's quite an event, if you enjoy such things. The different aromas and tastes and even the different methods they use to cook. Some cookers are even made from scratch in an effort to bring out the best taste in their BBQ cooking.

God, now I'm hungry. I'm going to have to make a visit to my favorite BBQ joint sometime soon. But, I'm going to have to go in the off hours, because there's always such a line. I'm not the only one here who knows good eatin'!

You can absolutely make healthy bbq! There are regional differences in what makes bbq, but generally speaking the slow cooked process, the smoking, etc., isn't unhealthy (other than the argument about carcinogens in smoked/grilled food), so what you're looking at is meat and sauce (though I think there are places that don't do sauce, and there's sauce vs. dry rub and all that). You can pick quality meat and most barbecue sauces are tomato sauce, spices, vinegar and sugar. You can make bbq sauce without sugar and it will still taste fabulous - you can use molasses or honey or maple syrup even - or low in sugar (higher in spice).

My husband says he still craves the Mcdonald's fish sandwich! It's because he grew up eating it. He hasn't had any fast food in years, but he says he'd eat it in a heartbeat if it were healthy.

I also always called grilled food bbq too. I make grilled ribs (pasture raised pork, of course :)) with my own bbq sauce that are fucking phenomenal, if I do say so myself. I rub them all over with my own spice rub, slow cook them in the oven for a couple of hours, and then baste them with my bbq sauce and finish them on the grill. Fahhhbulous!

Now THIS I would definitely pay for! YUMMMY!!

And yes, childhood happy memory foods are hard to beat. I still crave a gooey box of KD every once in a blue moon. Even though it is just chemical soup with orange semi-cheesy flavour.

I will be enjoying my first real Texan BBQ in one week! I will report back with my findings. :D

Good god, that sounds incredible.

It also reminds me...

Wench, as an "insider," do you know anything about the source pigs? In what type of conditions are they raised?
