Introduction: This happened in four steps, truth be told. The night before the final installment of The Lazy Lemon Sun was published--and about four days too late to do anything about it--I realized I didn't really give closure to Mommy Dearest. Then, it was posted, there were quite a few people who noted this and asked for some more. Next, Scouries posted a comment asking that I consider writing a story for the Halloween contest. Finally, I spent my half hour drive to the courthouse trying to figure out how to do all of these things.

I don't think Erotic Horror should have a "happily ever after" so having a character readers love to hate, fun to kill off.

Halloween is awesome. I love murdering main characters.

Decided to track this one, since I haven't tracked a Halloween contest so far.

I am going to cheat, though. I'm only going to keep track of scores and votes through most of the remainder of the contest. I'll add in the stats for views, comments, and favorites at the end, so all the data will be present then. Those didn't really change all that much after the first couple of updates anyway.

One of these days, I'll get off my lazy butt and finish the automated program that will gather all this data for me ( responsibly throttled to mimic normal traffic, of course ) But for now, it's still the caveman method of checking three different locations to gather all the data.

So far we have 47 stories. The average score is 4.06 and the median 4.13.

The average number of votes is 151 and the median 67 for a total of 6655

I've got the perfect story but I can't find away to make my main character likable? Perhaps that's not a problem? The pastor is likable. What do you guys think?

Main character definitely doesn't need to be likable, probably especially in an erotic horror story. But he/she needs to be interesting in some way. The reader needs to want to find out what will happen next.

Computer problems

My main desktop won't boot. The problem might be connected to a mysterious phone call yesterday from 'Microsoft Technical Services'. I've just scanned this old laptop I'm using and found 600+ infected files, now removed.

My wife's laptop had a similar number of infected files, also removed, but I scanned my main computer in the middle of last week with no problems found.

But my next draft Halloween entry, and Jeanne's, are on my main computer, and athough they are saved there, I hadn't backed up to CD or the other computers since Wednesday, so 5,000 words are stuck on my main computer.

I'll get it fixed tomorrow, but now I don't want to start yet another story when Jeanne and I are in the middle of current drafts.

PS. IE is corrupted on this laptop so I'm using Firefox.

I know exactly what you mean! I have to put stories aside too. For some reason once a story has had a breather, a chance to grow some moss, it becomes interesting again.

Lord knows I wouldn't be spending a couple of hours a night on it for my own entertainment *laugh*

The information can be useful when you're new, and takes some of the mystery out of how people are voting, what the sweeps do, how categories perform, etc.

Of course, it does tickle me when it frequently makes certain trolls look like fools, as well

Almost done. I'm around 2500 words with about 500-1000 more to go to finish. Just the end and then adding some to the rest of the story. It's not erotic horror but a halloween themed mix-up story. Main character Pastor-is likeable. Other main character is flawed but shouldn't invoke hate. Let's see what happens!

Thank you! I dunno, I've only gotten about 14 votes so far, but then the story has only been up for about thirteen hours, so I'm not surprised it hasn't gotten near the numbers Dark has posted as averages. I'm confident it will get there though.

Keep in mind that those averages are heavily skewed by high-read categories such as Incest, and extremely popular authors like DGHear.

It takes a while to build up a following. That readership then usually votes you up to an H early on, which attracts more eyes in a snowball effect.

The first story may not explode, but keep at it, and you'll build up a readership

Yeah, the troll is desperate to make himself relevant. Virtually nobody he posts about knows anything about it. He just associates his name with authors who have real fans to try to make himself look important. Do what most everyone else has done: Drop him on ignore.

Believe me, you won't miss anything except giant font, stolen pictures, and the brain cells that die every time you read one of his egotistical blocks of lies that that he passes off as posts
