The Authors' Hangout 2011 Halloween Contest Support Thread.

Jumping in late here. I finished my story last night... after 1am... when I hadn't intended on writing a Halloween story at all. Then it took me about two nights. It's nice when the whole story kind of pops into my head, but these late nights... *whew*

I’m surprised how little attention my story is getting. Fewer views, fewer comments, and fewer emails than I’ve ever gotten on a contest entry.

Do people just avoid the “Humor & Satire” category like a plague? I know it’s one of the least popular categories, but I didn’t expect this big a drop, especially since the contest page doesn’t identify category. Is there something about my title (“Moan”) that drives people away?

This is like waiting for trick-or-treaters who never show up.

i'm in non-erotic. a little experiment that's turned and bitten me on the arse.

Since A.I.R. doesn't exist, this 'announcement' is bullshit.

Perhaps you could write an entry for Halloween about Hockey Mom Sarah Palin. That really should go in erotic horror...

(and would probably be a contender for the Authors' Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest - open to everyone unlike A.I.R.)

Sarah Palin (lol)? Anything anyone writes about that dizzy dame is funny.

You English have the best sense of humors.

Wish they updated faster so the trolls can see they've wiped out an author's H sooner and leave a fucking story alone.

Hopefully, Literotica's Hoover vacuum will sweep away your bashing votes and restore your red H. Only, don't get your hopes up. The bashers have learned, instead of voting a 1 or 2 to vote a 3 or 4. The higher votes will stick and accomplish their mission enough to torpedo your score.

I wish there was a better way to have a fair contest. Maybe if they went by a combination of hits and votes, that would erase some of the foolishness. I don't know.

Good luck with your story.

Views are far to easy to forge. Sit there and keep hitting the view button and there is no way of verifying who did what. So you and scouries are stuck with the same as the rest of us, trolls and scores.

Planning on making this a productive day (though most likely not until after my nap).

Going to try and clean and organize the bedroom first since that's more of a priority than a story contest, but I'll take a break and then get some writing done. I've got the next part in my head all set to go but I've been procrastinating.

And last night I had a dream I'd won something on this site and I was all super excited because there was some cash involved. But then I thought, "Wait, I haven't even finished my Halloween story, so how did I win?"

It was some other thing (that my mind made up for the dream) and I'd won with another of my stories. The whole deal was that you didn't need to actually enter the contest. And the story I won with was some sort of Aladdin-type story that doesn't even exist lol. Dreams are funny.

Ouch. Maybe Fridays aren't so good for me to post. The new one has picked up a bit of a kicking.

Maybe I should have toned down the Britishisms at the beginning :D

Just out of curiosity...

About how many Word pages equals one Lit page? I've always wondered.

Can't equate it that way. There are too many variables of a Word page--depends on what you've set it to--the font, the font size, the spacing, the margins, etc. and so forth.

Do it by wordage. A Lit. page is about 3,750 words, again with a few variables.

Story is out to beta readers. Actually, it had to be re-sent as my hub gave me a better idea for an ending. *whew*

Comfortably qualified and already achieved my primary goal -- reads and votes coming in on older stories :D

Now to see if I can finish my horror story. It's been too long since I took a walk on the dark side.

...

Not qualified. 2 short PCs for which I am grateful but few votes and rating well below 4.00.

I'm in the middle of another, longer, entry, but Jeanne D'Artois also wants to write a Laundry Tale.

okay...did some more writing. it's an odd little story with unlikable characters! lol I'm about half way but I just can't write anymore this morning. maybe in a little bit.

Still fighting my horror story. I just can't find the proper motivation for one of my characters that leads directly into the ending. I've written and re-written the beginning three times now *laugh*

The middle and end is easy. It's just getting there that's giving me fits.

May take a break and work on one in my third name. That one's simple set-up and screw. No pesky plot, and the motivation for the characters is simplicity in itself :p

I've got the perfect story but I can't find away to make my main character likable? Perhaps that's not a problem? The pastor is likable. What do you guys think?
