Writing Goal for the Day?

Not sure if this is worse. I split an apartment with a guy I'd gone to college with when he was in grad school and I had just finished. In the morning, before work,
he'd make his "coffee." He would heat the water. While waiting, he would take out a tall glass mug and put in: instant coffee, much milk, and much sugar. When the water was hot, he'd dump it in, stir it all up, then chug it down.

Even I, who does not drink coffee, was appalled.

I said, how can you? Is it even coffee at that point?

His explanation, as I recall, was that it cut down on time -- he got his coffee, and it was instantly cool enough to drink.

Ick.

There's an added benefit for people with kids: Writing broadens and deepens the understanding of grammar even more than reading. So writers can all the better help their kids with homework...

This is true in other ways too, I guess. I have found that writing here has made me a better non-fiction writer. My sentences have shortened, and I use less flowery language.

I can see my next meeting now. "But Dr. Advisor, I was working this summer, honest! I was writing porn! It is an integral part of my doctoral career."

In my defense, while I was a chronic re-heater when I worked in retail, I don't do it much anymore. The holiday hours were brutal, and somehow, I never got my breaks. I nursed my one coffee all day long. Without it, I would have smacked a fair few people.

Well, since my editor is holding my finished completed chapter hostage, I will have to go back to the next installment in the "Desperate Measures" series. I put it down in June, and haven't picked it up since. If I can get through the second sex scene, I'll be pleased.

That does sound disgusting, but it is remarkably similar to what is served in some Cuban restaurants around here, except it is served hot. They call it an "Americano."

To be honest I have a rather radical point of view on the 'writing porn vs. writing fiction' comparison:
What's the difference?
Swordplay or bedroom fencing. Both require some amount of detail. The differences aren't that big.
If it's done right it's art and if it's done wrong it's awkward.

Personally I think people who are really good at writing porn could even be better at writing non-porn than the authors that never tried this.

But somehow it turns out to develop into a small porn movie...

I can honestly say that I only tasted reheated coffee once. There was always a ready supply of fresh (or at least hot) coffee available. In the navy it was strong enough to wake up dead and even today it sometimes spends enough time on the heater to qualify as chemical weapon, but it's always hot or goes into the gutter...
But on the other hand I'm a freak. If the coffee doesn't come from an absolutely normal filter coffee machine I won’t drink it. I'm a child of the 80's here...

Okay, in all fairness, if I have people coming over, I'll make a fresh pot of coffee. If it is just me, I'll make a pot (with a pinch of cinnamon in the grounds), then reheat it, by cup, as needed, although for no longer than two days. So, the pot I made this morning will last me through tomorrow.

I feel compelled to point out that although I do not drink coffee, I have been told that I make good coffee. Not sure what that quite means, as I've never tasted it myself and so wouldn't know if it was good or not.

Interesting thought. When I use the 12-cup maker, I use 1 scoop per 2 cups, sometimes with just another half a scoop. I just find it funny that everyone says it's good. I mean, c'mon, it's a coffee maker -- how can it be messed up?

I am halfway through it (some might say half-assed through it, and right now I don't want to argue), and am caught between the Scylla of soppy syrupy sentimentality and the Charybdis of no fucking idea how to get through Sally's birthing of Francine. The second scene is a threesome and I am finding it hard to keep track of all the hands, and mouths and such. Also having a problem with"her" as it is 2 women, one guy. So her could be either and people could get confused.

This is tougher than I thought.

I've found that in scenes involving two (or more) people of the same gender, one shouldn't be afraid of using their names. Or, there's always things like "the blonde woman," "the redhead," etc. It is tough, though, because you want people to keep track but you're trying not to be repetitive.

God forbid I ever put Anna in a threesome with Brad and Van. They're both blond. I'm still trying to figure out how it ended up that way. Anna needs variety!

Who writes a good lezzy scene, folks? Stella Omega? She's the only Lit author I knew who writes them at all. Others?

I haven't done a lesbian scene (yet) but I have had scenes of two female friends talking, or two sisters, or whatever, and even there it can be difficult to make sure you keep track of who's talking and not get messed up with pronouns, or repetitive with names.

You do have a point. I'll have to re-read my conversations between women and see if I did anything differently. Maybe it's a "deep POV" thing for me.

Now see my suggestion would be to do some research and get into an actual threesome. I mean you know, just to get a feel for things.
