Union Thugs Riot in Longview, Washington!

as someone else pointed out here, the only way companies like Huffy and Arrow were able to survive the union was to move manufacturing overseas

the union has that companies compete with China

Everybody hates people that roll over onto their backs and give up.

If the union gets there way the company will not go bankrupt. Not unless they are a very very stupid union. If the company goes belly up their out of a job the same as if they were fired. Sure they might get lucky and it might TAKE longer but that's the only difference is it might take longer.

What you miss if an employer gets what he wants he'll have slaves working for free. Ultimately that is the goal of every inteligent businessman.

Somewhere in between there is a compromise to be made and history has shown that the guys at the top rarely give a fair share to the guys at the bottom because the guys at the bottom have almost no pull as individuals. Even if you're going to make teh argument that if they have a unique skill they have some pull that's fine. But we STILL need grunts on the assembly line, and cashiers and shelf stockers, truck drivers, and garbage men.

Why do you want that?

So your saying we should compete with China in a wages war? If that's your official stance make it. Be a man and say Americans should except five dollars for a days wage, work in unsafe conditions and live in small cramped homes. Man up.

Where it’s far easier for them to exploit the individual poor from those countries and flout safety and environmental laws.

Woof!

Why stop at China, fuck it, let’s do like in Malaysia, India.

And if they don’t wanna work for a dollar a day bollocks we’ll get some kids to do it.

Woof!

no. we have to compete with technology. we can't match their low wages, that is a fact. however, Ford could replace many jobs with more robots. that's also a fact

First as you pointed out Ford could replace many jobs with more robots. Which while I'm all for innovation if unemployed Americans losing their jobs to robots is only slightly better than Americans losing their jobs to to the Chinese. What do you propose we do when humans have been made redundeant.

We're already looking at it in MANY fields. Except when I buy liqour I dont' deal with casheirs anymore. Usually I don't go to the store but when I do I use the automated check outs. Same for when I go to the movies. How many thousands of jobs is that going to kill? We already have Roombas (not that Americans do Janitorial work as is) but how long do you figure it will be before janitorial services, and lawn mowing can be cheaply replaced by tech in the states? What's your plan then?

Also we do beat them with technology in a lot of places. Americans are the worlds most productive workers. It doesn't matter that we're more productive NEM. When you've got one man who can do the work of two men that's GREAT. Unless he wants five dollars and you can get three Chinese to do the job for two dollars apeice. Technology is not moving fast enough (especially since American companies take the tech overseas once they develope it.)

In fact lets stop there. How EXACTLY do you plan to keep a head in technology when technology is for sale?

yes, strikes solve everything. what needs to be done, is replace union workers with non union workers.

We did. It's called China.

Does it, does it really??

Seems like BMW, Mercedes Benz, Bosch, Porsche to name but a few are making record profits and guess what each one employs union workers. Strange huh?

Woof!

Are you saying the record profits should be turned over to the union? or should the record profits be invested in expanding the company.

IMO, our two oldest airlines, TWA and PanAm went bankrupt because they couldn't afford the demands of the unions vis a vis pay, health and retirement benefits.

wait wait wait, who talked about BMW, Mercedes Benz, Bosch, Porsche? these are high end products with fat margins. they can afford just about anything!

how many american's have BMW's? not GM workers

NO! And I can't for the life of me see how you can think I implied that.

What I was saying was that companies can run very well and make record profits even if they employ workers who are members of a union.

TBH I prefer companies like Bosch which plough back nearly all of their profits into the company as opposed to those which return a large proportion of profits to a small group of wealthy individuals. But, that wasn't the point.

Woof!

Nonsense, they compete in the market place like anyone else.

I could’ve used Deutsche Telekom, BASF, Metro AG, Henkel AG or Adidas AG all successful and all have unions.

Your point was bollocks like it normally is.

So it's the unions fault the companies were poorly run?
