Irene

Yes! I am sending all my positive thoughts and wishes for everyone on that coast to have safe and dry places to rest while they wait this out. Also sending my deepest hopes for cleanup and recovery to the status quo to be compassionate and swift!

People here are acting like they've never been through a hurricane before. Shit is ridiculous.

Gas stations are sold out of gas. The storm is projected to hit to our west. We live on an island. The only evacuation route is to head west into the storm. Why the fuck do so many people need gas? Where the fuck do they think they're gonna go? Do they think all the gas stations are going to blow away in the storm?

Dumbasses.

I'm born and raised in Philly and still have a ton of friends there. They are panicked. I sincerely hope ev eryone is safe and sound...

Hmm, gas? I bought a bunch of it the other day to run my generator for the three or four days we'll probably be without power. That should allow us to bathe, and have easy access to drinking water (we're on a well whose pump is powered by electricity). I'll need gas to cut up the trees that will probably close my driveway, preventing not only us from getting out, but emergency vehicles from getting in. The generator will also run the fridge and the freezer, keeping a few hundred dollars worth of food from spoiling. Also, diesel fuel for my backhoe to regrade the driveway and haul off the tons of wood that are likely to be in the way. So, yeah, buying gas sure is a dumbass thing to do. Unless, say, you believe in being prepared.

Pretty sure he was talking about people putting gas in their cars.

Also, people? Please be safe. :rose:

Could be. I also filled my car. Seems smart. For example, if the power goes out for a week, no gas stations for a week.

That's fine. Know what octane gas sold out first? The high test.

I doubt people run their generators with high octane gas.

But when at least two gas stations in two different towns are sold out of gas, I can guarantee there were plenty of dumbasses who had at least a half of tank of gas or more in their cars who decided to fill up.

Absolutely fine here in northern Virginia suburbs of DC. Wet and windy but nothing severe or dramatic.

So far so good here ... just keeping my fingers crossed that I don't lose power as the winds continue.

Floods floods and more floods. Gonna have to find a new and adventurous way to work tomorrow I'm sure. But i do so love the sound and look at all the trees dancing and shaking off their excess leaves. I also love how Mother Nature always makes her fury so pretty.

Lost power, (for a short time) Lost a window in my bedroom when a tree crashed onto the house, but all in all? I'm most upset about the tree. I loved that damn tree.

Nothing wrong with being prepared....we got lucky! Damage and lost of life could have been much worse. Case in point...Katrina was 6 years ago today.

KC, her kids, mom and other relatives are east-coastish, and at least some of them, including KC and her kids, have had no power and almost no cell service for the past two days. Keep your fingers crossed, prayers and good vibes flowing if you would, please? They don't seem to be in any real *danger,* but they're definitely not comfortable, so they could use some positive reinforcement from the folks here.

Thanks!

Thanks for the update, I was hoping someone had heard from KC.

We survived...twas not fun but we did it. Everything here including stove and water heater are electric. Some people have pumps to pump waater to house, not us so we were lucky to have at least water. Nothing like a cold shower at 4 am btw
Thank you nice men from kansas for getting here so fast and fixing things. Even though I would have loved a hotel room for the night I am glad they had them reserved for you.

Irene sucks the big one. we haven't had power since saturday night, and have to crash at Daddy's brother's so that t. can go to school. we had no property damage thank goodness, but electricity is kind of um, IMPORTANT! :(
