I am sure that many people have read about the 'Law of Attraction', or seen the documentary style movie, 'The Secret', and I am sure with varying degrees of sceptisism.
Basically the Law of Attraction states that you can bring anything into your life if you believe it strongly enough.
Sceptics, myself included, would say that there is no hard evidence whatsoever for the Law of Attraction working.
And the proponents of the Law of Attraction would reply that this is because although we may wish very hard for something to come into our lives, and conciously we may be certain it will happen, in our hearts we don't believe it.
What is more if we are afraid of something and obsess about it, this often means that in our hearts we believe it will come to pass, and indeed often this becomes a self fulfiling prophesy resulting in self sabotage and bringing into being what we most fear.
It occured to me that the idea that if you believe something strongly enough you can will it into being would be a powerful idea for the plot of a story.
---------------
In my story, the main character is a man who would have preferred to have been born a woman, and is in the 'Transexuals and Crossdressers' catagory.
The idea of the 'Law of Attraction' is called upon to gradually change him from a biological man to a biological woman, and the subject of the story is his journey from male to female and the interaction with other characters along the way, with the opportunity for various types of kinky sex as his/her body goes through the transition.
Of course a literary device is necessary to explain how the central character can come to believe in his/her heart what would appear to be impossible.
The device used in this story is called 'Deblock Therapy', which is advertised as a therapy for mentally deblocking by removing self defeating beliefs preventing a person from having their hearts desire.
The implication being that once the mental blocks have been removed, the Law of Attraction can be harnessed to bring about the central character's inner most wish.
