Rate of change of the volume. If the glass is filling up, it's half way to being full. If it's emptying out, it's halfway to being empty. If neither is happening..it's at half capacity.

That's the rate of change for the volume of a sphere with respect to a change in radius. I don't drink from many sphere, let alone where the liquid inside disobeys gravity and is attracted towards the center of the vessel.

As much as I look into random stuff pretty much all the time, I've never really looked into breast milk production.

Well, I've been studying lactation for over four years, and I think it applies.
