The 18th Variation is a strong contender but there are better compositions out there, especially when performed by virtuoso musicians.

I agree there are better arrangements of Paganini, and better orchestra's that play it and I only searched a dozen or so...I did find a 1934 rendition with Rachmaninoff playing this own work...but if you can suggest a better composition, I would love to hear your taste in music, Claire de Lune comes in a close second in my mind, but Variations on a Theme, from Caprice, is by far the best of all...smiles...go ahead, James, argue with me on that...

Elgar, Delius, Guilmant, Chopin, Poulenc, and others, composed some wonderful music. But a little talent often elevates mediocre to interesting, and a lotta talent often raises mediocre to enchanting.

On the other hand some composers are awful performers; I'm thinking of Charles Marie Widor; his music is sublime but he was a ham-fisted organist.

You'd like Debussy's ARABESQUE; folks who like Rachmaninoff's 18th Variation like the Arabesque.

I'm listening to a collection of tunes by Felix Alexandre Guilmant. Critics dismiss him as a simpleton but lotsa his music is sublime.

That is a nice guitar piece...somewhat reminds me of the film, "August Rush", ah, I think that is the title...sentimental...I was about to say 'wandering' until the final few bars of up tempo resolution...ain't music just peachy? smiles..
