This is just a short rendition of the melody, but I think many will recognize the work.

Knuckle dragging Neanderthals such as I, are not supposed to cherish art...how very wrong you are...

Jim Hall : Guitar , Roland Hanna : Piano , Ron Carter : Bass , Steve Gadd : Drums , Chet Baker : Trumpet , Paul Desmond : Alto Saxophone... long ago it was Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan, and Paul Desmond played alto in the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

The 18th Variation is a strong contender but there are better compositions out there, especially when performed by virtuoso musicians.

I agree there are better arrangements of Paganini, and better orchestra's that play it and I only searched a dozen or so...I did find a 1934 rendition with Rachmaninoff playing this own work...but if you can suggest a better composition, I would love to hear your taste in music, Claire de Lune comes in a close second in my mind, but Variations on a Theme, from Caprice, is by far the best of all...smiles...go ahead, James, argue with me on that...

ah jez can't wait!

Here's another little piece, just for pleasure, featuring Paul Desmond and Dave Brubeck...it follows in a queue after one I listed in the OP.

C'mon guys, let's hear some of your musical tastes that challenge my assertion in the title, eh?

Fool on the Hill, above, a theme song for ten years on the same radio station...if you are from Oregon or Washington, you might just remember...then again....

Elgar, Delius, Guilmant, Chopin, Poulenc, and others, composed some wonderful music. But a little talent often elevates mediocre to interesting, and a lotta talent often raises mediocre to enchanting.

On the other hand some composers are awful performers; I'm thinking of Charles Marie Widor; his music is sublime but he was a ham-fisted organist.

You'd like Debussy's ARABESQUE; folks who like Rachmaninoff's 18th Variation like the Arabesque.

I'm listening to a collection of tunes by Felix Alexandre Guilmant. Critics dismiss him as a simpleton but lotsa his music is sublime.

That kid in your Avatar reminds me of the kid in "A League of Their Own", chuckles, or izzat a self portrait, heh? Yes, Debussy's ARABESQUE, is right up there, yaknow, James, our poor Latte' Liberals are in a Woodstock quandry as to how to address either of us...or Post any musical references that are not, ah, what the hell was that phrase, 'tune in, turn off, drop acid' generation...sumpin like that...sure is fun pokin' them druggies, eh?

:)

have a good day in Sunny Florida....it is finally summer here in Oregon, 'maters are poppin out all over...

While you may have a point about the Rachmaninov, I'm feeling this simple contemporary guitar piece right now- written for the film "At Sachem Farm" (also known as "Uncorked").

Ross's concert- by Jeff Danna

That is a nice guitar piece...somewhat reminds me of the film, "August Rush", ah, I think that is the title...sentimental...I was about to say 'wandering' until the final few bars of up tempo resolution...ain't music just peachy? smiles..
