Looking for Some Inspiration

I'd love to write a Non-Human story but aside from vampires, ghosts, werewolves, demons, aliens, catpeople/werecats, and centaurs I can't think of much else to write about.

Yes I started the minotaur thread and I do want to write a story about one but I'd like to start out with something different. It'd be easier to do vampires or werewolves but those are so overdone.

So I've come to ask those who read the Non-Human stories, what would you like to read about?

**And yeah, I do have a little vampire piece already but I don't really count it since it's not the big theme of the piece and is barely mentioned in it.**

There's this idea that keeps popping up in my head about a wicked demoness who somehow ends up blabbing her true name to that girl, a 20 year old school dropout with a half-baked knowledge of witchcraft, delusions of grandeur and quite a rotten mind. With the power of the true name, the girl controls her and uses her as a sexual plaything, while the demoness, as the story progresses, sees no other way but to try to get the girl to truely like her. After a lot of hardships, the demoness finally succeeds in evoking true affection in the girl, but falls for her herself. True love strips her of her demonic powers, and she becomes the submissive in a loving BDSM relationship.

Feel free to pick any part of it, twist it around and do as you please with the idea if you find it interesting. I'll propably never get the time and patience to write it myself, I've got to many unfinished stories on the backburner already.

Do you have any old books of fairy/folk tales or mythology laying around? If so, open them. If not, google Greek mythology or Norse mythology or Cherokee mythology or whatever type of fairy/folk tales you're interested in, and start to read. There are loads of creatures and situations already written, and handily enough, some strands of mythology (*cough* Greek *cough*) have healthy doses of sex and drama already written in.

You can either take bits and pieces of various characters and create your own, or set a story in one of these worlds (or a twisted version of the world).

Oo I didn't think about checking out some of the books about those things. Hm...I'd have to search the net, the only stories I have are Arthurian legends. No idea where my Grimm's Fairytale book went.

You might also try just taking a different angle on one of the usual creatures. For example, with weres, there are very few stories of aquatic shifters (I recognize some inherent problems), but that could be fun. Or perhaps think of a "normal" set up, and see if making one of the characters into something else would jazz it up.

For a long time I had the idea of a story (which became Light and the Darkness) about a girl who could paint using light, and then a lord or someone kind of kidnapped her for the ability. However, I couldn't go anywhere with it. Then I changed the "Lord" to a vampire, and added a little of a "beauty and the beast" framework and everything just fell into place.

There's also the idea of doing weres other than werewolves. And as others have suggested, looking at old myths and legends might spark an idea.

And play with the common themes. Your vampires don't have to die in the sunlight (although I'd like an explanation as to why if not , biting does not have to turn someone into a werewolf, etc.

Aside from that stuff, I do have a non-human creature that I've written into a regular story that I hope to have published one day. I could use her, she definitely needs more backstory because I have no earthly idea what the hell she is. I pulled her from a recurring nightmare I had as a kid. She's like a cat person but her tail looks like those you'd see on devils. Urgh, what's it called...oh my gosh this is going to bug me. Damn baby brain!

I swear it starts with a P. It describes the pointed tip at the end of the tail. Dragons have them sometimes, too.

Blah, whatever (if you know, please tell me because I hate it when I can't remember stuff).

Buuut my cat creature, though I've thought about writing an erotic story with her, makes it a bit hard. She can't exactly speak but I think that's because of some binding magic she has on her. So the only noise she makes is this creepy one that all I can describe it as is like a goat's bleat mixed with that territorial growl cats make and she only makes that noise right before she kills you.

Well, mostly I didn't bother about the moon. There are plenty of werewolf stories were they shift any time they want, regardless of the phase of the moon. I've read and written them. Why should there not be were-felines, or any other kind of were? They simply are in my stories. Most were stories don't give long backgrounds on how the werewolves came about, for example, so I didn't feel it was necessary for me to do so. I wanted weretigers, so I had them -- along with werepanthers, and later, leopards and cougars and wolves.

That's as valid a way to do it as anything else. In my vampire stories (I've done two), I've just taken what I wanted and left out what I didn't for the vampires. So I had one that could be in the sunlight (due to his age), and he needed to be invited in, but he could eat real food and wasn't affected by garlic, or many of the other usual vampire myths. And I just didn't get into whether he was dead, or a genetic anomaly or anything else. It just wasn't relevant to mys tory.

Sorry, can't help you with the tail thing. As for your cat creature, be careful you don't make her so complicated you can't use her. If she can't speak, okay, but she would need a way to communicate. As for the killing... well, that'd make the mood a fair bit less romantic, wouldn't it?

Personally, I like reinterpretations that play not only with a character and the setting, but with a character's role (donor to hero, villain to donor, etc).

Hmmm. Well, now that you mention it, the idea of Boadicea and an incubus has a certain appeal; their offspring would give Merlin a run for his money (wasn't his father an incubus?).

But Boadicea and a succubus? Or Boadicea and a succubus and an incubus? That's lovely.

Ponyo was definitely really cute. I couldn't believe it when I found out it's a twist on The Little Mermaid.

As for your were stuff it's definitely easier to just have things be but I get too into the cause of things lol. Like right now I'm insanely interested in trying to find something that would trigger a werefeline change.

I do like the concept that weres can change at will, though. I didn't start thinking about that much until a friend got me watching The Vampire Diaries (it's my guilty pleasure haha) and there was a big thing about a sun and moon curse which, if broken for the werewolves meant they wouldn't change with the moon and so endure the horrible pain and whatnot against their will. If it was broken for the vampires it would allow them to walk in daylight. But then it ended up all being a big lie and it was just a rumor started so this one vampire/werewolf crossbreed could lift the curse placed on him so he couldn't tap into his werewolf side and so be uber powerful.

I guess I just figure they were born or evolved as such. I just don't need to back that far to figure it out -- unless it should become relevant to the story. I think the farthest I went was in my tiger stories (which were sort if inspired by a weretiger story by Daniellekitten) was to say that there was some debate as to whether weres had been created as servants for witches, or whether witches had made them into servants.

Well, I don't see that weres have to be linked to the moon for changes. They can be, but to me they don't have to be. Also, for my weres, the change is painless -- another thing that I just don't see as important to any story I've done so far. But you could play with that. Perhaps they rarely change, or only for emergencies, or something like that.

Ah, I see -- man, it just takes one half-breed were to ruin to for everyone else...

Don't discount the selkiies and kelpies if you want aquatic shifters, and they're already into the corpus of eroticfolklore. Can be a lot of fun, too; I had an enjoyable RP going on selkies a while back...

*sniff* Ponyo was so sweet. Perhaps my new favorite Miyazaki film, although K's Delivery Service was wonderful, too. Could be a nice source of inspiration for an aquatic story of some type.

Kiki's Delivery Service was the first Miyazaki film I ever saw. I own that one and Ponyo. I want Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away, too. I just haven't gotten them yet because Disney is full of greedy a-holes so they're movies are usually never under $17. I just happened to have some extra cash when Ponyo came out of DVD and Kiki's Delivery Service was a gift.

The thought that witches created were-beings is incredibly interesting. I mean think about it, cats, bats, ravens, crows, owls, toads/frogs, and rodents have always been associated with them as familiars, it wouldn't be a stretch to think one witch would want one that could turn human when needed.

That actually makes a pretty interesting erotic story plot. Hmm...I read a story somewhere with a guy who was in the woods one day or something and he came across this chick or a cat who was injured and it turned out it was a werecat. I might've read it on here but it seems like I had a book in my hands at the time. It was a cute story.

I guess it's been done but I think that's what I want to write. A witch and a wereanimal.
