All-time...that is a toughie. I have to say that I really like "Aftermath" by LeVar Burton. Yes, Geordi LaForge wrote a book. His parents were both English teachers, so it's not half bad. It's post-apocalyptic fiction, which is one of my favorite genres. Yes, I have read it more than once. I also really like "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides, which I am currently about 45% though my second reading.

Careful now, you'll hit your head, and the Sultana does not keep a big medical staff!

What got me started was performance art. I often got tied up at parties - back when I was young and skinny, and this was the kind of party I went to. Then the person who tied me up at these parties did a "private show" for a mutual friend, and threw in a little domination...I was hooked. Went home with my mind a blur and falling in love. We started dating quickly after that. I stuck with it because I loved it, and I still do.

what do you find, for you, are your best methods for coping with depression?

who is that last family member you lost?

My chief method of coping with depression is distraction. I have ADHD and I can distract myself like a champ. It usually involves the computer, but sometimes a movie.

I haven't lost anybody recently. Unless you count the cat, and he was sighted late Saturday night. Hasn't come home yet...but was sighted.

My aunt is going to die soon. She's my mother's brother's wife. She has end-stage lymphoma and could go at any time. I visited her the last week of June. She's a dear, sweet woman, a true saint, very intelligent, and will be a great loss to those who love her. Before seeing her in June, I hadn't seen her in 15 years. That's when she and my uncle moved from northern Virginia (very near where I live now, actually) to northern Arkansas. Which was...not my kind of place.

To what extent are you aware of your present desirability?

Do you know with confidence that you are sexy now?

I've found that confidence to be more important than any other single factor, though I suppose some small part of that's attributable to my taste for dominant women...

In anycase, I could use a little of that confidence myself.

It doesn't universally equal sexy, no. But a whole lotta people think it does. I guess I try to use it as a self-protection mechanism. Like, to make people realize that I wasn't always a big girl. I know a lot of people do like big girls, but without probing someone's personal interests, I tend to assume they don't - so I try to protect myself by pointing out that I was once skinny.

I am not usually aware of my desirability at all. Yeah, I wish I had that confidence. I know big women who do. I'd love to be an April Flores type, she is so gorgeous and sexy and she's CONFIDENT about it! I'm not sure if, given the opportunity, I could do it. I'd probably start moaning about my skin not being clear enough to be a model.

And yes, confidence is key, I don't think I am sexy now except to those who know me and love me and automatically think that...I am usually pretty down on my looks. Fortunately I consider myself brainy, if not beautiful.

It has at least one vegetarian restaurant, liberals, people from many different places who have come there to live, and more shopping options than just a Wal-Mart supercenter.

The closest veg-friendly place to where I was, according to HappyCow.net, is some 60 miles away. The closest actual vegetarian place is 3 hours away in Memphis.

Why are you vegetarian?

2. I like animals, I don't want them to die.

*nods* that is fair enough. You do realize, though, that animals are well...meant to die? A cow is meant to be eaten. Chickens are prey. For that matter, so am I I won't begrudge the tiger that eats me. I mean, I'm not trying to shit on your plate or anything!! It's certainly one of the "better" reasons for being vegetarian!! I've just never had a vegetarian who is vegetarian for that reason give me an explanation beyond "I just don't like it" or something along those lines. I'm curious to know if you have one I just don't quite understand the stance because one animal dying to feed another is so...natural to me. It's just how it is, you know?

Ovo-lacto. If I get the job in Japan I will eat chicken while I am there. 3 months in Japan as a vegetarian taught me that it is very, very hard to get by that way!

It's natural, perhaps, but to me all life is important and I prefer not to claim higher value on my life than on an animal's. In this society, there are plenty of options for me that don't involve animals, so I choose to follow the path that makes me feel better about myself - a path that doesn't involve killing animals. In Japan, there are far fewer options for vegetarians, so I think it will be necessary to adapt somewhat.
