My weekend is going great :) Especially since last weekend and surprising our neighbours with going out into the garden naked (if you recall), because they were very nice and our little stunt seemed to have broken the "ice" between us.

This afternoon we had a little get-together, not a BBQ, more of a social event with a few glasses of wine. And, I played my clarinet for them. They appreciated it this time instead of complaining...

:D:D
I would certainly love to be your neighbour! ;) I've had a good weekend too just trying to relax after vacation. I had a fun time on lit this morning...have been meeting lots of nice people. :)

It definitely got friendly! :) Lots of people have commented on my avatar. Today is my wife's birthday so I brought her flowers, a card and bagels for breakfast. I'm making dinner tonight. She slept in late today...her birthday started way early this morning..and it was a LONG celebration. ;)

Send her my blessings major. You are an angel ;)

Now that is a very relaxing way to spend some time - did you have a good day? :rose:

If you read back, you will see I had a very relaxing day with our neighbours. Amazing how one can become friendly in just a week after springing a surprise on them :)

I just caught up on the thread ;) It seems that 'springing a surprise' was an understatement ;).

I had no idea you played the clarinet. Did you play long?

I've been playing both clarinet and piano since I was 12. I was meant to be some music genius, but that was rediculous from the start. I love both instruments and I had my own ideas for playing them for pure pleasure. So I sacked my music teacher, fell in love with smooth jazz and play by hear as well as make up my own smooth jazz rhythms :)

My taste in music is inspired by both my love of dance and those years I was "taught" to play music by hear. I had natural "rhythm" genetically from my Mum's italian roots I suppose. Dad's side of his family are all Yorkshire farmers or market gardeners with their roots firmly placed in Yorkshire history. They can be quite "snobby" and nationalistic in atitude. My Dad taking an italian wife did not go down very well as she was the daughter of refugee parents from a once enemy state in the second world war. I rarely mix with Dad's older relatives or visit them, but uncle Harry (Dad's brother and his wife were kind and generous people).

I learned to play piano and clarinet (the sax was difficult for me to handle). My lessons began in classical music, but I listened to smooth jazz and soul and found that easy to emulate by listening. So away went the expensive music teacher and hello came smooth jazz which I can experiment with when I want and feel like it. Also, I can dance to it's rhythm autmatically as my body responds to that ever so relaxing sound.

I can't write music, which I think amazes Lorraine. Her sons are "real" musicians, whilst I remain the forever amateur, playing just for fun, then getting bored, and returning to it when the whim takes me. However, teaching samba is something I love to do for a rewarding pastime, and I have had work, voluntary for afro-american dancers and musicians in the Manchester areas. I love to see the youngsters pick up those moves so easily and they were fun to work with. Yet, here in the UK that kind of genre of music relies on local government funding which runs out and there is no more saddly once it's gone :(

Thank you for sharing :rose: It seems that you have taken a musical odyssey. Do you play for an audience/clubs as well as for pure pleasure?
