Will there ever be a total war conventional warfare invasion of the continental united States by a foreign army, particularly from China and/or Russia? I believe thousands of thermonuclear missiles and the threat of mutually assured destruction has probably prevented this from happening several times throughout the past 60+ years.

If the axis powers had won WW2, they would have initiated an all-out invasion of the US and so forth. Hitler and company wanted to take over the entire world, literally!

strategically, the U.S. mainland would be incredibly hard to invade. with large, easily defensible bodies of water to either side, canada to our north (who would be very hard to convince to allow an invading army to roll through), and mexico to our south, which would create a very narrow corridor for advance. if someone somehow managed to get enemy combatants on U.S. soil, not only would they have to contend with our military, but also every red-blooded American with a gun.

the only way it could happen is internally. the economy and/ or environmental collapse would fuel riots, etc.. then america declares martial law and calls on the UN for support.
