Ups and downs and ups:
I interviewed to become an Adjunct professor at the local state university. I met the entire department, and they didn't want to let me go home. I think I got the job, but there has been no formal offer yet. The bureaucracy needs to churn. They asked me to prepare syllabuses for two courses and a seminar. They were excited.
I come home, and my back yard is literally a river - 4 to 6 feed deep and 100 feet wide with rapid current. I think somebody's farm pond dam gave way. I walked up stream in hip deep water, but I didn't find the source. It may be miles away.
Water overtopped the foundation wall of my basement and flooded. My children heroically assembled a bucket brigate while I was oblivious at my interview, but they couldn't keep up. The river eventually receded, and the sump pump is winning the battle for now.
We all took hot showers to recover from being submerged in freezing cold muddy water.
I walked out onto my balcony, and there was a crane (the bird) standing in my yard. I have never seen a real crane before!
