Ode to My Mistress

Perhaps this would be better suited for submission to the poetry section...

It doesn't seem to be even the beginning of a discussion of a BDSM topic.

Ode to my Gnu

One day I went to the zoo,
to visit the old gnu.
But the old gnu was dead,
and the new gnu, they said,
was too new a new gnu to view.

Here's a topic!

I always hear male pyls talking about worshiping goddesses and never hear about female pyls talking about worshiping gods. Whyfor?

Maybe it feels blasphemous?

If you happen to be inclined that way...

Maybe because in mythology goddesses (esp. Aphrodite, Artemis, etc if we are talking Greek) are associated with youthful beauty and grace, whereas the male gods are associated with wrath and wars etc?

I suppose one can try... In his blue eyes I saw the ocean, calm, confident, with a thousand undercurrents that only I could see, and I longed to tread in those dangerous waters. He was my god, my Poseidon, I reached out to him, praying as his faithful priestess, and felt his anger, his desire rise as a wall of water... In a minute I was swept away. My world was flooded by his presence.

There, I've done my god worshipping of the day.

You definitely get an E for effort!

And wrath/war? I thought having a penchant for carefully channeled violence was a plus for some d-types?

I get into worshiping the god. I just do it privately. :)

So I searched for ditto the other day for pokemon reasons and one of the first results is a hideous woman sucking her toe.

Whyyyyy?

Internal inconsistency detected! I'm going to think about this later and post back.

I mean, I totally get the appeal, especially coming from size-fetish communities where it's REALLY common for the little men to want a goddess to worship and sacrifice themselves to.

(Mm. Talos.)

I actually brought the question up in one of those circles, and someone pointed out that it is used in some stories, but it's meant to paint the giant in a negative and egotistical light and make him seem like more of a nutcase, whereas the use of goddess in the same kinds of stories with the gender roles reversed are used in a positive (albeit sometimes misogynistic) way.

For me it's less of a mythological reference, and more of a devotional act. It's a genuine appreciation of the god that is in my presence. :)

This reminds me of the Story of O quote in the oral servitude post, "She received it as a god is received".

There are all various historical / cultural influences that I can think of that explain this difference. For example how the women were seen as frail and needing to be put on pedestal and taken care of, so treating a woman like a goddess would seem the gentleman thing to do, while treating a man in similar fashion would be rather insulting. And of course feminism. Much like M/f power exchange relationships is frowned upon by some as the woman pyl is automatically seen as being exploited, to worship a man as a god? That's affirming the male is the superior sex and resigning yourself to be his doormat maid!

Hmm, I also wonder if the high demand/supply ratio of dommes contributed to this 'goddess' image...

I think it's because most people are still tied in to the general populace enough to have an inkling in the back of their minds that worshiping a goddess is a romantic atavism, while worshiping a "god" is sort of bucking the system...
But what do I know? :)

Not to mention, of course, that the OP probably had no choice in his post here. He was merely complying... So go ahead, heap humiliation upon him. That's the point, I do believe!

i think that's an interesting point. I mean-- your communities are something special unto themselves, but yeah. Men who worship goddesses-- I always wonder if "Goddess" ever means "This here female type human with the bad hair days and the occasional halitosis and the menstrual cramps and the pair of shoes that broke a heel yesterday because she's actually kinda klutzy... "

I wonder if he can worship that normal people stuff, or if It all has to be transmuted to the divine realm.

Like-- could he take orders from a woman with a frizzy head wearing sweatpants? :D

Only on the phone or on the internet, Stella, unless it's a long-term relationship (maybe).

Otherwise, the goddess must be costumed. Industries are built on this need.

Goddess in sweatpants and baggy tee. Urban scene.

'This insect is not worthy' he intones, and *scuttles away crabwise*

*Goddess appears brandishing saucepan* SILENCE, MITE! CRUSTACEANS ARE EVOLUTIONARILY DISTINCT FROM INSECTS! FIE, FOR THY TRANSGRESSION, PREPARE TO DIE!

And lo, the homely goddess did strike the worthless one a brutal blow by her stainless pan, whereby he dragged his pitiful, broken form from her dwelling henceforth, where his last of of devotion was wiping his miserable trail of blood with his very hair as he went.

...you'd be surprised.

I guess it has to do with what welkin said: one is seen as being "taboo" and romantic (as in romanticism, not lovey) while the other is seen as "taboo" and stupid.

I always thought it was kind of funny and cute whenever I heard dudes throwing the term around, but I was/am always reminded that it's grounded in the "men and women are totally and completely different creatures" camp, and that using the term "goddess" in reference to, say, their ideal girlfriend, they actually wanted to keep them at arm's length and make sure they stayed in that lofty place where they can go and bask in their unrelatable and unearthly femininity, etc.

Hm... probably also has to do with the way "god" and "goddess" are colloquially used and that "god" just seems to be way more impersonal and generic than "goddess" at any rate... probably due to the fact that you hear the former way more often than the latter, especially in this country. :B

Poor guy. I think we've hurt his feelings.

Maybe he didn't like my ode?

Who gnu?

(BTW, I don't really care if the guy wants to use the board to ode all over. I mean, most of us regularly tune into Eastern Sun's thread, which isn't really, strictly, a discussion topic.)
