The Earth Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

I didn't realize you could submit already. Well, that's okay. I'm going to read mine over and submit this evening or tomorrow. It's only the title that's holding me up. Working title is "Lost in the Woods" (which, surprisingly, has not already been used in the romance category) but it feels kinda cheesy. I hate coming up with titles.

Hey Sweetheart, submit anytime tonight and it will probably make the first morning post. You have a winning story there. Best of luck to you.
With respect

Writers hang out here? Must be in the wrong place then :) I'm sitting with my conclusion and a hot and steamy sex scene not written yet. Blah

But I'm glad so many people are done so I can read your stories and thus procrastinate even more.

Hehe, yep, writers...which means you must be one dear. :) Oh the joy of trial and error, you'll get it there eventually. Keep the faith and don't stress yourself out.

:)

Well, unable to resist, I submitted my first story, Ashes To Ashes and Dust To Dust, in this year's Earth Day contest as a Loving Wives submission.

"Oh, my God! What have I done?"

Being that the story is counter to the catergory, the ending is the day of reckoning and filled with revenge and retribution.

"Oh, oh. Watch out!"

I'm already buckled in my Hermin Miller Aeron chair and am wearing my flak jacket, and helmet, while waiting for the artillary shelling. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

"Incoming!"

No matter. The comments for such a story in this category is always part of the fun.

"Good luck to all and to all good luck!"

Well, this is something new.

I just checked my pending contest story and it already has 3 dozen hits or reads, sales to Scouries.

Normally, when I submit a story it only has a few hits, before it posts.

Is this something new Literotica is doing with their computers to make sure that the story adheres to their rules?

Just curious. Who knows, maybe by the time it posts tomorrow, it will have 100 hits. Weird.

It will probably top out in the 60s. Manu said in another thread that they're looking into it, because they're doing a lot of behind the scenes work that probably triggered it.

O.K. Random question of the day. When you submit a story you can preview it and it shows up filling a certain number pages.
Is that correct when it is posted or just a guideline?

I'm done my story except for the sex. Hmmm. I guess thats the important part right?

That's correct, as it shows.

Basically, one Lit page is 3,600 words.

If you're sitting right on the edge of going over into a new page and concerned about it, there is a small chance that the final posting might not match the preview, bumping you into that new page.

If you're just looking for a general idea of where you are, the preview is accurate enough. Shouldn't be off by more than a line or two.

Hi DG. :)

Okay, just submitted. What a novel (novella?) feeling to have this done ahead of schedule instead of racing to get it in under deadline. Wow.

As my sig probably hints, I'm close enough to done with mine to know that I'm going to get it finished.

And with this one, I have all the people and things in place that I need to cover my ass against deus ex machina in a later story. Nobody reading that story alone would have noticed, but anybody who's read all the stories might have thought something was awfully convenient. Nipped that in the bud between Kindred and Heart.

Letting my second one idle for a while ( other than a few lines here and there ) until Heart is complete. I run this series through a double review process, so they take longer to go from first draft to final, and I can often crank out one of the stories in my third name in a day or two.

*cups hand to ear* I can hear Laurel cocking the starting pistol. Contestants, to your marks :D

Good luck to everyone.

What do you think the problem might be?

The first line is: "Have you ever fucked a fish."

And is then followed by a very sick joke/story from a soldier involving a knife, a fish and part of his anatomy. He doesn't actually do this. It's in there to establish the character as a gross individual with a dubious background.

I think somebody skimread it, went "Ew, bestiality!" and ran up the red flag.

It's kind of annoying as I specifically put in a note indicating there were no actual scenes of bestiality to try and avoid the skimread rejection problem.

I altered the offending paragraph to make it extra extra clear he wasn't doing it right there and then and resubmitted it with, hopefully, a stronger note. So we'll see. Maybe I should have started the story with NO FISH WERE HARMED DURING THE WRITING OF THIS STORY in 24pt font just to make sure :D

Started the tracking. Mostly 0s and *s right now, as virtually nothing has updated on the lists :p

^^

How do you find that link to all the Earth Day stories?

It had appeared when I went to check the New list for MEH's story. I didn't really expect it, because Laurel often doesn't get the actual contest page up immediately. She's on top of it this time, though.

On the main page, the currently running ( or most recently finished ) themed contest will have a link a couple of spaces below the New link. It changed from Valentines to Earth Day in the last half hour or so.

Yep, 21 stories out of the gate. I'm pretty sure that's the highest number of day 1 stories I've ever seen in this contest. I may have just made myself an assload of work tracking this thing *laugh*

It's usually a light-entry contest, but it's good to see it getting some attention!

All 21 are now in the track, and I have a nice range of categories I can cut-n-paste ( 11 represented already ) to speed up adding the new stories each day. Hope I can remember the rest of the shortcuts I came up with during the last track. I'd eliminated a lot of time by working smarter, not harder, by the end of the tracking.
