Now the Brits are at it!

I suggest we start with imposing a no-fly zone. :D

You won't need to. All our military planes are either in Afghanistan or over Libya. We might have an ancient Spitfire or two left to defend us.

Only if there are any HE-111's, JU-88's or DO-17's still flying. ;)

Dont tell anyone I let the cat outta the bag but Germany opted out of the Libyan fun and dumped NATO. Maybe Angela has plans for Britainistan while the cats away. Sieg Heil.

Oh, let's bomb the hell of London anyway. Time for a regime change there. We can say it's all for humanitarian reasons. :D

Bombing London to get regime change didn't work for Russian Anarchists, the Kaiser, Hitler nor the IRA...

We have other ways. :D (Don't look now, but your royal family is German/Russian.)

Not entirely. Princes William and Harry are at least half English. Of course, that English is a mixture of Pictish, Celtic, Roman, Norse, French, German (Saxony) and American, which is a mixture of everything. That's neither a complaint nor a putdown, by the way. :)

And Greek. Don't forget Phil the Greek.

And Dutch, and, and...

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second claims ancestry from most of the Royal Houses of Europe and, but doesn't generally admit it, from the Norse God Woden, the Greek God Aphodite (or Venus if Roman), along with the postumously deified Julius Caesar and a few other assorted pagan gods and demigods.

Phil the Greek was already in the family, wasn't he? (Not that we'd mention incest or anything). :D

Yes, he was but nowhere near close enough to arouse a flicker of interest from those who like incest stories.

So was Lady Diana Spencer, and her relation Sir Winston Churchill but he was half US American as well.

OH come now, Ogg, there are quite a few Tuccanos, Hawks and others in the various bases, most of which would work as ground-attack planes.

Could you kindly provide the coordinates of each plane? Thanks you. *smile*

So what are the English protesting?

The cost of their society?

What ever happened to the "Stiff Upper Lip", the bearing down to endure? (or what ever the Brits say?)

Of course I understand that it depends upon who's lips are stiffest, and who's lips the most, 'influential'.:D

From the Left Coast it appears that the Conservatives are tightening the belts of the middle class and wondering if they can prevent another looting of the Treasury with lower taxes, on the Business class?

It's been sparked off because instead of concentrating on things like tax evasion and cutting down on how much money the top bank folks make (though there was some wave to this is the budget) they've been making cuts left right and centre.

Petrol keeps going up (despeite the huge 1p off duty, woo)
Food keeps going up.
Local services are threatened with closure.
Benefits to those in deep need are being messed about with.
The education of our kids is threatened. "There are no cuts in education" they like to say but the fact of the matter is that there are cuts. All kinds of services once given to schools free of charge will not be given free of charge in the near future. School governors (of which I am one) will soon have the pleasure of chosing what essential programmes in our schools we can afford to keep on and those which we won't be able too.

And who do these cuts hit the most? The poorest people in Britain. The condem government keeps claiming this isn't the case but just saying a thing isn't so doesn't make it true.

People are suffering for, as far as they can see, no good reason. Hence the protests.

Apart from the fact that the TUC and Labour Party are the organisations who traditionally oppose anything done by a Conservative government, it's a demo that's been high-jacked by the vociferous minority wanting publicity.

Most of us will bear down and endure it; we have no choice. But it often seems that some parts of the society get an easier deal than the rest of us.

The majority of people in the UK, according to recent polls, accept the need for cuts because of the financial mess the bankers and the previous Labour government left (note the order).

However there is resentment that banks, many of which had to be bailed out by the government and some are now effectively state-owned, are continuing to pay million-pound bonuses to their staff when ordinary people are seeing their living standards eroded and local services closing.

I agree that there should be financial restraint, and yes, even cuts in service in the short term, but the financial industry that was a major cause of the current crisis, should bear more of the burden. Some of yesterday's marchers would agree with me. Many would go further and insist that the banks should bear ALL the burden.

The majority of the people marching yesterday were ordinary people who are worried. The violent minority, and they were a tiny minority, didn't care about the issues. They were there for the violence and attend any large demonstration whatever the cause.

No, the Brits arent at it at all, sorry, they've just cut the limb under their feet once again.

Bollocks - with the greatest respect, Og.
The majority of Britain's don't give a fuck - just as long as it's all happening to someone else.
Nonetheless 250,000 on the street is a sizeable protest. I expect the May protest to be bigger, that is, if all those fleeing the country to escape the Royal Wedding can get back on time.

Thanks EL,HP, and Ogg. I thought that's what was happening.

Easy fix, hang the top twenty Bankers and pass a +10% tax on income over five million pounds, personal or corporate, then tell the B(w)ankers that any further larceny will be met with a rope.

Not PC, but it will get their attention.

Awww. c'mon, Ogg, for Christ's sake, give it a break...unrestrained Unionism destroyed Detroit and you know it! How anyone could support an institution that required you to pay and join before you can work, is beyond me.

Why should it always be left to yours truly to point out the England is suffering the self same malaise as is Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Spain, merely another PIG at the trough of public funds?

When will the obvious faults of socialist democracies ever be admitted?

Never?
