The Earth Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

At last, we have a fresh, clean page again. It won't stay that way for long, but at least we're not surrounded by mountains of trash posts for a few minutes.

*crash* *smack* *clunk*

Thought I'd get the trash posts started. Those were my balled up ncaa brackets, which are no longer any good. I aimed for a nice old grove of trees in the corner. Given that it's an Earth Day thread, they seemed like nice enough targets.

My story if off for round one of editing. Sadly, I do not get to sun my buns on the beach with Dark's muse while I wait.

You're welcome

As a public service announcement, I just thought everyone who is interested in entering the Earth Day contest should be informed.

The Earth Day contest, due to a death in the family, has been postponed until April 14th. The contest will run from April 14th until April 30th and winners will be announced on May 7th.

I don't understand why there hasn't been a post about this before, but I just thought I'd keep you all in formed.

So, you all still have a few more weeks to work on your stories.

Good luck in the contest everyone.

You're welcome.

The above post is either a poor attempt at humor, or a poor attempt to eliminate competition by claiming that the contest starts on the day after the submission period ends.

Either way, it's not worth the electrons that died to generate it.

The official Earth Day thread is a sticky post at the top of this forum ( The Authors' Hangout ) and any real changes to the contest would be announced there, by Laurel, the owner of the site.

The contest starts in 6 days and submissions will be accepted until the 13th of April.

As would John Travolta say, as Vinnie Barbarino...

"Wha?"

Damn, I thought I was on ignore. I figured I could get away with eliminating much of the competition and no one would notice my sly plan.

"Damn."

I'll have to think of something else.

Stay tuned.

And we invite QUEEN LAUREL :cattail: and PRINCE MANU :D to adopt their own piece of Miami Beach sand – it’s only $200 bucks…

...and maybe even the notoriously cheap denizens of AHland could come up with their own $200...

Each and every one of you can make a difference...

I was amused that it appears to be Libya that's getting diddled in Scouries last stolen image. :D

Skip the Earth Day Contest

As a point of information for all those new writers who haven't yet entered a contest, come closer to the screen. I don't want everyone to hear, especially certain people, because they'll just say that this isn't true. Don't believe them. They lie.

Okay, most writers skip the Earth Day Contest in favor of the Nude Day Contest in June. Why? Because the Earth Day Contest pays so little.

If you win the Earth Day Contest, you only win $75, but if you win the Nude Day Contest, you win $500. Yeah! Wow! Now that's a big difference, huge.

Moreover, if you want to get in good stead with the resident authors, who write here, don't enter the Earth Day Contest. No one enters the contest. Why? They use this contest as their personal protest.

They feel that all the contests should pay equal prize money but, trust me, the contests don't. Honestly, if I were you, I'd wait until the Winter Contest. That pays $1,000 to the winner.

So, if I were you, I'd skip the Earth Day Contest and use the extra time to polish your Nude Day Contest stories or your winter story.

Oh, please. Don't mention it. It was my pleasure to give you the inside information.

"You're welcome."

Please ignore any "Information" statements from BostonFictionWriter

As usual, BostonFictionWriter is peddling mis-information.

The financial rewards for winning or placing in any Literotica themed contest are the same:

First Place: $150 Cash Prize
Second Place: $100 Cash Prize
Third Place: $75 Cash Prize

They are shown in the sticky for each contest at the top of the Authors' Hangout.

Trust me

Misinformation?

Yeah, right, we should all believe what someone writes, while wearing a funny hat and dressed like a king, when he's really a queen.

Hey, I was only trying to help some of these new writers by showing them the ropes, Og.

"Psst, don't listen to Og, he's a bit daffy. Trust me, I have your best interests at heart. Have I ever lied to you?"

Oh, if anyone is interested I have swamp land, I mean, ocean front property for sale in Florida. The rumor that I started, I mean, rumor has it that Disney is interested in buying the land. I know. I can't believe it either.

Buy my land, set up your lawn chair, put on your Mickey Mouse hat, and wait for the offers to buy your hand to come. Good luck.

Don't write the best story, just make the most forum posts

Actually, all kidding aside, for those who want to win a contest on this site, this is how to do it.

Forget about spending hours, days, and weeks writing the best story that you can possibly write. Instead spend all your time posting on the forum boards and making as many friends as you can.

The contests here have nothing to do with the quality of the story, but more to do with the popularity of the writer. The more popular the writer, the more red H's and blue W's he or she has, even if he or she can't write for shit.

Don't believe me? Read some of the past winners and then read some of the stories that I've written under SuperHeroRalph and Andtheend, especially. Then, open up their page and look at all those red H's, but before you swoon at their talent, read some of their stories. I know. They suck, don't they? It doesn't make sense that a writing site is all about popularity, but this site is very political.

The AH regulars close forces around one of their own and they have a master list of who is next in line to win the next contest. They take turns winning the contests and so that people don't know, they constantly come up with new identities, so that they can win again and again.

I'm open and honest about all my identitities. I write under Andtheend, BOSTONFICTIONWRITER, CarBuffStuff, PositiveThinker, WmForrester, and now SuperHeroRalph.

When writing on the forum boards, you have no idea who your corresponding with. Matter of fact, they argue between themselves, so as to confuse you, as to who they are.

So, if you want to win a contest, forget about the story. Fuck the story. You can write any piece of shit and still win, so long as you have lots of friends who will vote for your shitty little story.

Just this year alone, you need to read the contest stories that some of these AH regulars won and placed in the contests with. I'm embarrassed to read them. It hurts my head to read them. It's a shame and it's a sham.

Just once, I'd love to see an honest contest. Just once, I loved to read the best stories placing in the top three. Unfortunately, in the way that this site works, it will never happen.

So, good luck to all the new writers. Introduce yourself and start making as many friends as you can to guarantee you a contest win.

Sorry, but you're wrong

Bullshit. Write a good story and it'll place.

Ah, I've written hundreds of good stories. I can write circles around those who have won contests here and my scores languish at around 4.0 because for every 5.0 vote I receive, there's an AH regular to give me a 3.0 vote.

All you have to do, my friend, is to read the stories of those writers who have won and placed in contests, while reading all the other stories that didn't win and you'll have the same revelation that I've had now for so many years.

By the way, I was puzzled by your sudden indignation, that is, until I read your contest story, the one with the blue W.

Better than most, but certainly, not one of the best in that contest to have earned you a blue W.

Thank you for proving my point. Are their any more volunteers, contest winners and placers, who think that their winning stories are better than my contest winning stories (lol)?

Just as I figured. I already know that no one will dare challenge me.

You said it, Manyeyedhydra. You are absolutely right. The contests here are all bullshit.

Freddie, why do you always have to shoot yourself in the foot. You've been doing rather well of late and now this.

The same old sour grapes you and your friend scouries have been spouting for years. No one listened then and no one is listening now, so give it a rest.

By the way, I'll put any of my winning storeies up against any of your winning stories. Oh wait, you don't have any. Duh! See what I mean about sour grapes.

No, you don't. Maybe you did a couple of years back when you wrote under BFW, but not anymore. I read the horror story you posted in the last contest after you'd complained about someone targeting your stories. It was a rambling mess.

Certain types of stories (the sugary feel-good romances) have an edge, but that's about all from what I've seen.

I was going to say. I won 3d place for Halloween in 2009 (Ghosts of the Forum), and I hadn't even been on the forums at that point, I don't think. So I'd say that shoots a hole in the theory.

*Whew* I may have an edge! ;)

Sorry, Tex, but your same empty argument of me having sour grapes doesn't work.

Can't you come up with something new or are you as limited in your bashing posts against me, as you are when writing your dull fiction?

Listen, we're both educated writers. You know the truth as much as I do. You very well know that these writing contests have little to do with writing and more to do with popularity and who wrote the story.

Ah, but who were you before you were PennLady?

Gees, I wonder.

You just made my point about AH writers constantly and continually changing their identities to win contests.

Thank you for admitting that, PennLady.

Now, doesn't it feel good to come clean and admit the truth?

Is there anyone else here who wants to confess that they are a cheater and a sucky writer, as TxRad, Manyeyedhydra, and now PennLady?

C'mon, don't be shy. I'm giving absolution for all your sins.

You mean the story that placed in the summer contest, despite coming from the Erotic Horror category.

The same story that sits 11th on the all-time horror list here. It also has the most votes on the front page of that list.

It picked up a blue W because it was a good story and people liked it. There really isn't that much of a trick to it. :)

Actually, your argument would have made more sense if you wrote that when I wrote under Bostonfictionwriter, my stories were a rambling mess, though they weren't, even back then.

Now, I'm a better writer, good enough to take on the entire AH board, whenever they gang up on me, one person, like this. You guys can't shine my shoes.

Who else? Anyone else want to take a poke at me?

Listen, I'm the righteous man. I speak the truth. I don't lie. I don't play games. I'm not here to make friends. I write stories and I write damn good stories.

There are few writers on this site that are better than me.

Do you want to shut up? Then, play fair. Stop bashing my stories. Maybe, even allow one of my stoires to win or place on its own merits and then, and only then, will I realize that the contests here are fair.

Yet, when someone like me, who has written nearly 900 stories and has improved every year and who is so devoted to writing, can't even place, well, what else am I to assume?

It's not me. It's not my story. It's the contests here. The voting is skewed.

These contests have nothing to do with the best stories winning. They have more to do with the popularity of the author.

I dare even write that many of you don't even read the winning stories but, when you see who wrote it, you just leave your screen open enough to make believe you read them, so that your 5 vote will count, as you do when making believe you read my stories to make sure that your 3 vote counts.

Well, if you want to go down that road, let's discuss the 250 favorite authors.

Presently, I'm around #80. I once was #24, that is, until I wrote a story complaining about the list.

I wrote that many of the authors above me no longer wrote for the site, hadn't posted a story in years and/or were even dead.

When that story hit, the writers here banded together to make sure that they found every writer, writers that only wrote a few stories in 2000 and marched them ahead of me.

What does that tell you? That tells me that this site has nothing to do about the best story winning contests having the highest scores. It's about how many friends you have on the site.

The volume of my stories attest to that. No one. No other writer on this site has written more words than me. The only writer who has written more stories is SamuelX but not more words.

Popularity is what drives this site and not the best story and that's a shame. I would have enjoyed this site more, if I knew the scores that I received were honest scores and not 5 votes from friends and 3 votes from bashers.

Now, whatever scores I have are meaningless. Basically, I write for myself and not for red H's and contests. Nonetheless, that's not going to stop me from voicing my opinion, frustration, and indignation.

I earned a green E. How many green E's did you receive? Only, I shot myself in the foot by writing a humorous review about Green E's. Laurel didn't appreciate my humor and I never received another green E, even though dozens of my stories were much better than the story that I earned the green E.

Yet, that's okay. I'm not about green E's. I'm about developing my writing skills and improving as a writer. I'm about the story. It's about the story. It's not about me the writer.

And here we have scouries number one alt with more bullshit.

Sorry scouries but we all know what an ass you are already so there is no need to prove it.

As for you Freddie, I didn't and haven't bashed you, ever. I've tried to talk sense to you but you never listen and this whole mess you're making of the contest thread just goes to prove it.

For your information, more none AH writers win in the contest than AH writers. Go check the results if you don't believe me. Most people in the AH could care less about the contests, they are too busy writing and publishing their work for money.
