You know that oogie feeling you get . . .

Having been that someone on many occasions is why I always booked Outpatient Surgery before lunch.

Your doc probably used local anesthetic. Next time, insist on the imported stuff.

Ouch!

I'm having a mimosa with my dinner. Perhaps you should do the same?

Perhaps it's best the nail went. The hubby had a post-marathon toenail grow back wrong, and he ruins his socks after only a month.

Wishing you the best, and put your best foot forward!

To be honest, the only part that hurt was the anesthetic. I think I hate the man for it.

I mashed a fore claw but was lucky in that the considerable deformation all grew out and now it looks perfectly normal. Sure took long enough, though.

Don't hate the man. A digital block always hurts going in. Once it takes, all should be good.

He could have done it without a digital block...

Similar problem; then I got an fungal infection in it (treat with iodine).
It still hurts. . .

From Scotland I presume.:)

Yeah!!

I remember a scene from one of the Star Trek TV series. Bones, Scotty and Kirk are on some planet, Scotty has some kind of a minor injury and Bones is about to do something about it.

Scotty takes a big slug of the local hootch "for medicinal purposes".

Bones: "Do you have any idea what that stuff will do to your liver?"

Scotty: "Too late Doctor...you should have warned me sooner..."

Nailbed fungus infections are the shits. The most effective treatment is with a laser. Not sure if that has spread outside the U.S., though. HM had hers done as part of a study. 'pears to have worked.

My father told of a story about his childhood. His father held him down while the doctor sliced the nail down the center and peeled it off his foot. Gives me chills every time I think about it.

I have to use a topical antifungal for the next few months until grows back so I don't get the infection. I must say, I'm very vain about my feet. I usually pay a great deal for pedicures and treatments. I hate the idea of having a missing nail.

I'll keep the laser thing in mind in case it doesn't heal right.

Sorry to hear about your toe.

Thankfully I've never had to have a nail yanked. The closest I've come was having several small holes drilled through a nail to relieve pressure when a piece of Plywood slipped through my hands and dropped edge on directly on my toe.

Keep the toe clean and keep using the anti-fungal on it.

I drilled holes in my toenail as a kid on the farm. I dropped a wagon tongue on it and, with no health insurance, unless blood was gushing or a bone was protruding, we didn't go to the hospital. Dad handed me the bent paperclip he heated and I burned the holes in. It didn't hurt and it sure felt better after it drained a bit. Whew.

Mom drilled through mine with a large sewing needle. Release of pressure was wonderful.

I had a bad bleed under a toe nail. I don't even remember why. The whole toe turned purple/black. I drilled my own nail using a tiny drill bit from the tool box. The relief was almost orgasmic. It was like a tooth ache that suddenly went away but produced a bit of a mess.

Along the same lines, as a kid, my parents took me to the emergency room for an extremely painful ear ache. While waiting to see a doctor, the pain suddenly went away. My parents took me home and were very annoyed about all of the drama leading to wasted hours at the hospital. Long story short, my ear drum burst and relieved the pressure. Note: in my case, it was a military hospital. I always say: if you want to know what USA government health care will be like there is no reason to guess. Visit a military hospital or Veterans Administration hospital.

Also: You never want to experience a military gynecologist. I have it on good authority

It's just anecdotal evidence though.

Funny, I've always had great care from both military and VA medical facilities. And I've been going to them for forty two years.

In the hospital Emergency Room there were fancy high speed drills for poking a hole through a nail to relieve a sub-ungual haematoma.

A bent paper clip and a Bic lighter to heat one end worked better, faster and was far less painful.

Gimme that old time medicine...

Had the nail surgically removed from my left halux, but some cells seemed to have been missed. Now I have two small nails on that big toe, growing towards each other from opposite side. Great conversation starter at the beach...

A drill? Ugh! No way would I let anyone get near my toe with a drill! The paperclip didn't hurt at all. The relief was amazing. The best part? It didn't cost a thing. Smelled a little funky, though.

Don't say that! I want my nail to grow back well-formed, healthy and in one piece!
