It has come to my attention that a number of women, particularly those on the east coast have never heard the term Jilling, jilling off, or a jill.

Well I have been using this term since I was in my early teens. Talking with a friend of mine in Virgina, we decided we'd post this tread and see if this is just a west coast term or is it national. Do you ladies in the UK and Canada use this term?

If you could please let us know at what age you began to use this term, and what part of the country you live in.

Thanks... and
Happy jilling

what is this thing you call Jilling? Could you describe it or maybe....hum a few notes?? ;)

I never heard the term until about the mid-nineties, if that helps... I remember laughing when I heard it!

Jilling , is that an unknown thing ? well, I think I have heard that word, and many others for masturbation over the years. But then again, when I was younger, I took as much information to me, and I still do. And yes I know men do not jill, they probably wank. But still to me, that word has not been unknown for me, for MANY years. Heck I even think I have an older 70´s Color Climax magazine with the word jilling in it. Cause I certainly hope, it is masturbation , jilling means. Or else I think we have a double meaning of a slang word.

I've heard it called many things but never "jilling"....maybe I've lead a sheltered life here in Australia.

im from sunny(not) glasgow and of course jilling is the female equivalent of jacking, heard it tho its not a word i would use, some of my southern friends use it more than us, we tend to stick to safe things like rubbin, playin, friggin and whackn the bush. Sure their are more ive forgot, but thats what springs to mind. x

I feel so nieve, to think that a slang frase that I and my reagional compainions use would be more widley understood. Interesting that a man in Denmark onderstands it, not a native speaker, yet State side women are baffled. In my group its as clear as fuck, or pussy.

Still interested and would love to hear more.

You gotta love language.

Happy Jilling

I'm still interested in hearing from others

It is inreresting Trish. I'm a So Cal girl and it was around when I was in Jr High, so I've never givining it a second thought. Like you I just assumed it was universal in the English language, much like its male counter part, jack'n off.

YES... happing jilling

Midwest

Jilling is not a term used in the Midwest, Mo/Kan area. I never heard the term until Lit, but it wasn't difficult to understand the meaning. But I like it so, going to start using it as an everyday description....hehehe!! :D

Jack and Jill? Jack(off) and Jill(off)? Duh!!

That reminds me of a naughty verse.

Jack and Jill went up the hill to have a little fun, stupid Jill forgot her pill, and now they have a son.
As I said, it was a naughty one ;)

sows_ear: well I think it is because, that I want to understand(I have a desire to understand and be understood). And because I just plainly suck information to me. With help of my photographic memory, and yes languages are something I personally love too :)

Jill should have gone up the hill with Jane instead of Jack. Lesbians never have to argue about who's responsible for the birth control.

Well two lesbians can't get kids with each other. If there is not a sperm donor in the mix. Unless we go scifi on it, and they go to a scientist, that makes a piece of their DNA into some kind of embryo. And after all, it is just a naughty verse, and fun to some.

Jack and Jill..
Although both mean to masturbate, jack has a rough mean meaning.
Some one jacks a car, or jacks you around, jacking is not pleasant.

But to jill, sweet, relaxed, a pleasant experience.

Happy Jilling

I don't remember the first time I heard it - it wasn't "always" a part of my lexicon, but it seemed natural the first time I heard it.

And yes, I have always associated it with "Jack and Jill" where men Jack off and women Jill off.

Although one might question where the term "jack off" began, too...

I agree... I really don't like the term "jack off." That's not how I masturbate anyway. I stroke, I rub, I play... but I don't do jack. Well... if Jack was hot, I might do him...

I think I learned of the term "jilling" in a Playboy magazine when I was a kid, so that was a long time ago. 1970s? Oh lord, I'm old. lol

(But I still look good naked, Jack. Call me.)

And yes... happy jilling, ladies. :)

I masturbate, I wank, I probably jack. But the main point is this. Those little fun words, are what makes the world more happy and colourful :) so happy jilling, happy wanking , happy masturbation :) hell does some body remember the "old" fun parody song based on "we didn't start the fire" ?

The term was first employed by Nicholson Baker in his 1992 novel Vox.

Hmmm that seems to me quite far-fetched... or maybe I am wrong, but to me the term seems older.. And yes I know I am only born in 1982 , but I have porn magazines that are older than me.. also I have read porn magazines that are older than me. But I have no proof of what you are saying is true, so whether it is not. That I can not disproof.

i suspect baker certainly popularized that usage of "jilling", but to suggest that usage was his invention doesn't sound right to me. i'm pretty sure i've heard it pre-vox.

A careful search of the archives will reveal the truth of what I say.
