A lot of us like to travel. A lot of us live close or around each other and don't even know it. What are some cool, off the wall restaraunts that you would rescommend in your area? What are they known for? What is your favorite thing on the menu?

I have been traveling a lot for work lately and get tired of the same old shit. Would love to hear what good eats are around you.
 
If you ever make the mistake of coming through or to OKC I would suggest Nic's Grill in the penn-10 area in downtown. They are known for their burgers and even though their isn't much seating there is always a huge line. The burgers are fantastic and well worth the price.
 
If you are ever in Northern California There is a chain of steakhouses called Cattlemens. Some of the best steak I have ever had. And their beans rock!
 
We don't have much to speak of in Westfield, but if you go up the hill to Mayville there is one place I like, the Lakeview. This whole area caters to the nine weeks a year of Chautauqua Institute's season, but the Lakeview is owned by locals, and is one of the few places that doesn't raise their prices 50

I got a killer burger @ Ron's up in Edmond a few months ago.:)
 
Smitty's on Lake in Pasadena. Killer cocktails and an old-school menu of good chow.

German? I will take you to The Berghoff. THE BEST German food, ever! They even make their own root beer. It's phenomenal food.

Spanish you say? Then we shall dine tapas style at Cafe Ba-Ba-Reba. The service
is exquisite, the food is outstanding, you cannot go wrong.

Do you have a taste for steak? Well, THE best steak EVER is at Gibsons. We can dine in style with a steak that needs no knife, it will melt in our mouths, accompanied with a MASSIVE baked potato. Guaranteed there is always a celebrity or two to be seen there as well.

Chicago style pizza? Giordanos. It is a dining experience to never be forgotten. I promise.
 
I'm in NJ so if you're ever in the state i can recommend the following places:

white rose - highland park, nj - old school, greasy burger joint. favorite of drunk college kids at 3am

tastee's subs - edison, nj - best subs ever! the bread is nice and soft, the meats and cheeses are fresh. best of all, the subs are cheap

the grease trucks - new brunswick, nj - famous for their "fat" sandwiches. probably the most unhealthy thing you'll ever eat in your life, but they're great. i think the "fat cat" won a maxim contest as best sandwich within the last few years

the fox & hound - edison, nj - pretty nice sports bar, food and drinks are good, great for eye candy (especially in the summer)

the grove - milltown, nj - local bar, but has a good menu and the food is really good.

carmine's - atlantic city, nj - great italian place. there's also one in nyc

pf chang's - atlantic city, nj - i'm pretty sure it's a chain, but the food is damn good

that's all i can think of off the top of my head. if you're ever in the area, enjoy!
 
I'm a "foodie" - but more so a food snob :eek: I once spoke to the head chef at a restaurant on how to improve an item on the menu, the next time I went there, they had changed it...he told me it was now the most popular item for that area of the menu :D

In Oklahoma City/Del City/Midwest City/Norman/Moore areas:

- Ingrids Kitchen...German Cafe
- Don's Alley...Comfort food
- Salt Grass...OMG delish steaks!!!
- La Baguette...chic French bistro...mmm!!!
- Pink Swirls...it's a bit unusual in the sense of a dual eatery: Sushi and Frozen Yogurt
- The Mont...former church converted into a restaurant...more so caters to the college age crowd
- Coach's...BBQ in Bricktown YUM!
- Pops...sweet burger joint

In San Diego:

- Kansas City BBQ...yes "THE" one that was used in the movie Top Gun...decent BBQ place, and awesome to see the movie memorabilia :)
-Anthony's Fish Grotto...awesome Seafood, atmosphere is great too!!
-Harney Sushi...OMG they've got uber awesome rolls...my fav the Captain Mitch Roll, and then the Bomb James Bomb roll is also good :)
-The Original Pancake house...OMG they have super yummy pancakes...my fav the bacon pancake :D
-Rubio's...yeah it may be a fast food eatery, but damn their fish tacos ROCK!!!!!
-In-n-Out...yeah another fast food joint, but OMG they put burgers on the map IMHO!!!

In Omaha/Bellevue, NE:

-Jim & Jennies Greek Village...the BEST gyros ever!
-Golden Dragon...yummy chinese place :)
-Lo Sole Mio Ristorante...good Italian Food!
-Edelweiss German Restaurant...their Ziegeunerschnitzel ooohhh yummy!


In Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater, FL:

-My cooking :D Seriously, I love cooking :) In fact...I'll put it out to the forum and will say any Litster who ever finds themself in Tampa, if you get to know me... I'll invite you over and cook something for you :)

-Crabby Bill's Seafood...simply put some great seafood
-Cajun Cafe on the Bayou...great Cajun food, love the atmosphere :)
-Seasons 52...a bit more upscale, but WOW their food is so mouth watering!
-Schiller's German Delicatessan...German cafe & mini grocer...good stuff!
-Brickhouse...Great Atmosphere, swanky place & late hours...love their beer selection!
-La Teresita...good Cuban food that won't break your wallet
-Kojaks House of Ribs...OMG this place is just incredible, I love their BBQ!
-Taste of Boston...little seafood eatery on Tampa Bay, great for a quick lunch, w/ a relaxing laid back feel.
-Giordanno's (yep echoing Mrs H) you haven't had pizza til you've had their stuffed crust pizza!
-Galley Pizza...their calzones are pretty decent, not too pricey.

If you are ever in the Seattle area I think Canlis is worth a visit. Been there since I think the 1950's. Amazing West Coast buidling but it is the steaks come for. I have been for ions but remember it fondly. http://www.canlis.com/ They used to have a location in Honolulu that was amazing too but I have heard it is now closed. Very sad that the wonderful lava buidling was torn down for so called progress.

When in Maine you have to have lobster, right?
The best lobster stew I have ever had can be found right here in the prettiest village in Maine at The Sea Basket. Rich and creamy and loads of lobster. Yum

If you are ever in the Vancouver, BC The Tomahawk Barbeque is a most for an old school place. It has changed things up a bit by using organic beef. They do one of the best ceasar salads I have ever had with homemade croutons and dressing and and slices of parmesan. Everything is good but my favorites are the burgers. I usually have the Chief Simon Baker as it has my favorites but not too big. Their yukon bacon is amazing. Pardon my editing Sensual D but I can only reply about your San Diego picks which are excellent by the way. I would like to add a few as well

-Hash House a Go Go in the Hillcrest area near downtown has been featured on Diner's Drive in's and Dives and has a line for brekkie daily.
-In Old Town don't miss Zocalo Grill it's mexican fusion paired with seafood EXCELLENT!
-Harney Sushi as you stated is THE BOMB! Everything is good. They opened a new location in Oceanside too.
-Point Loma Seafoods for a casual lunch by the Sportfishing boats also doubles as the best seafood market in town.
-Taste of Thai in Del Mar and Hillcrest always delivers, Pad Thai Noodles are fabulous.
-Vigilucci's Steakhouse in Carlsbad is right on the 101 at Tamarack with fabulous views of the Pacific.
-West Bistro, also in Carlsbad is the hot watering hole coupled with fabulous food. Hit the Happy Hour to whet your whistle and stuff your face.

Between Sensual Dreamer and I you should be covered if you come to visit....

If you are ever in Ohio, look for a J Alexanders as they make an AWESOME prime rib.
 
At last count, there was something like over 5000 restaurants in the metro area alone, and a city that enjoys a good meal, here's just a small sampling. But there's so much more!

and here if you like Japanese or here for some Mexican

And we'll have to get there early to eat at this iconic place... but the smoked meat is sooo good.

North of Boston is a place called "Companions" - in Revere, MA
- The best Chowda in a bread-bowl eveaaaaa (Yes, that's how we talk up here)

In Manchester NH, "Cotton" and "Unwind"
- Wicked good food and martinis (bring your AMEX-Black, neither is cheap)
 
In Sanford, FL there is a place called Hollerbachs Willowtree Cafe It's a German Restaurant.

In Winter Springs there is a place called Stefano's. It's an Italian Restaurant.

I would offer to cook like SD but my house has to many guard dogs and only one of them listens to me.
