Thinking of the people in northern NSW & QLD with all the flooding with 8 dead & 72 missing in the last 48 hours with more rain expected again today.

Instant inland tsunami is what is being described as. :(

Hope our MzMoon is keeping dry & all others up north.

everyone the best with the floods as there is nothing you can do but try to get through all the water. I know having been through at least six hurricanes

Hi to all in Aussie Land!!

For those of you that have been watching the Mog v's Callie Cricket wager, unfortunately we have had to put it on hold this weekend. Sadly my Mum passed away on Friday after a long illness. Thankfully Mike (Mog) is here with me at this time and has been a wonderful support.

 Callie

Many prayers and thoughts for you and the family that everything goes as smoothly as possible. :rose:

Thank you for the kind thought Mr Gil. Where I am is fairly high and a little way from the local water course. It's just so horrible to watch the sad losses that is going on in other parts near by. I had to get up from the television and come sit here just to stop the images for a moment or two. That shows how lucky I am, as there are those perched on rooves right now for whom the images can't just be shut off by walking into another room. My thoughts and heart are with those who are affected by this most terrible disaster. I hope that those who are in need will receive the help they so desparately need.

Hello to all again, I've been away for a while and then just lurked around the RP forums a bit.

Starting to RP a bit again, but other than that just chilling out.

I want to send out some wishes to everyone for the New Year.

I hope anyone around Perth isn't in danger due to the bushfires.
That our Melbourne guys survive the storm warnings.
And that Queensland and flood effected areas all around the country survive these tough conditions and come out of it with as much of their possessions intact.

To everyone else, I hope that whatever problems you have in life work themselves out, and that 2011 is ten times better than 2010.

Cheers to everyone! I toast you all.

Welcome back.:D

With what is happening right down the east coast including Tassy plus in the west all our problems seem to pale.

I encourage you to indulge in another beer for me just because.

i know it looks like we're being hammered by rain down here in tassie - but we've actually only had about 2mm in the last few days.
the weather map shows storms over me right now, but apart from some high cloud nothing is happening yet (i need some rain desperately - water tanks need filling!)

having said that, i made a donation to the qld flood victims, and i'm in the process of sorting clothes and other bits to send up with the salvo's.
it's going to be a long hard road back from nothing for a hell of a lot of people over the next few months/years.

Seems as though the Red Cross only wants money so the people can buy what they need yet from what we see on the TV there isn't anyplace that might have the needed items for them to buy.

I saw somewhere a post from a girl in Brisvagas that she got sent home from work so went to shop only to find nothing left.

News reports told us there was flodding in northern Tassy.

Hope you get just enough to keep your tanks full.

at this point they only want money - but further-sighted folks know that soon enough they'll be asking for pretty much everything as the stores fail to cope with demand and money doesn't go as far as they think.

the news might say flooding, but so far no rain here near launy.

ok, the rain has finally arrived (0900 am here), and it looks like it's set in for the duration.
we'll see how much we actually get - hopefully it stops right after my water tanks fill!

I'm just hoping that our government reacts better and faster than the US did for Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans. We should be able to learn from them right now, considering the aftermath is pretty much the same and the needs of the people will mirror that.

At least to some degree.

I haven't been watching the news much the past weekend, but the 'inland tsunami' seems a little odd. I know the after effect is similar, but it's not really an accurate term for the disaster itself. But that's trivial considering the conditions for those living in the effected areas.

So is there any good news for the Aussies at the moment? Natural weather aside.

WQ, it seems that your in for a bad time of it if the weather forcast is right as your not even getting much of what is on it's way to you.

Victoria is in for heavy rain & flooding over the next few days now too. :(

173m up, in fact.
i might be cut off from town for a few days, but i have supplies and am ready :)

Tsunami would be the right tearm to use in this case as the rapid surge that hit Toowoomba imaged a full blown Tsunami.

Over 90 people now missing & looks like a much higher death toll on the way but this will only be after the waters subside.

This mornings news is we on the east coast can expect more of the same till at least winter.

it was a wall of water 8m high, no warnings, and it caused major havoc.
i've got some friends there and they reported in by email from their mates place - they've lost everything, including their prize breeding dogs (most likely drowned in their kennels).
but the family and kids got out.... albeit only with the clothes they're wearing.

If your Government reacts like ours! May God have mercy on you.

Unlike George Shrub our government has already reacted starting with handouts to victims of the floods, the army has been moved into the flood aid system so think ours might be reacting well ...... so far.

Here they would just blame Bush and let everyone float downstream.

Hi everyone

I'm originally from Sydney but I'm holidaying on the gold coast for the month. The flooding has been devastating and I hope all who are out in these affected areas are safe and well.

Be careful!!!

They've caught the Red Cross here charging people for food & blankets after a hurricane went thru up in the pan handle here.
The guys I know were amazed they wanted $5 each from a family that had lost everything for bowls of soup & some bottled water.
They chewed at the Red Cross & gave the family $50 they pulled together to be able to eat for a couple of days.

I've heard that young Webbo has a birthday comming up on the 19th January !

I've been forced to toughen up on what charity I give my money too as almost all now use companies to deal with the collection of donations & they take a large fee for doing this which is so wrong, donations are donations & not to be robbed by companies.

Red Cross should be exposed for this in dealing with people who have lost everything & as I posted above they don't want donations of food & clothes they only want $$$$$$$$ saying it's so people can buy what they need but where will they be able to buy stuff as all the retail outlets are also suffering massive water damage too, I will buy canned food & donate it along with clothing but not $$$$$$.

Yeah the Elf is back & I for one have missed your posts.

Hey Gil,

You are the main force on this thread so if it wasn't for you it would stall.

Just talking a break waiting for paint to dry. Rather humid here and has been since late last week. I was doing a lot of sweating whilst doing these individual reno tasks. Which has continued this week. Looks like we are going to keep this sticky heat at least until late in to the weekend. Not sure if it will impact the tennis starting Monday...have a couple of friends coming down from Sydney to go to it so hopefully the weather turns around by then.

Yep Victoria has coped lots of rain in the north west and northern parts. Something like 150mm since overnight, one place reported over 200mm. Normally that stuff fizzes out as it approaches the bay. There are two storm fronts coming our way one from the north west and one from the south east which was similar to what happened late last year when the CBD got swamped. Not much to do but wait it out.
